Regardless of whether you think this is impressive or particularly like Vance, having a VP who can talk to normal people like a normal person, has young kids, likes CFB and shoots guns like a normal adult American male seems somewhat refreshing in this age, no?

25mph full value wind is somewhere around 4-5" with a .308...less than 2" for a .50. With that .50, you're holding center/high center and sending it.

You may want to double check your wind tables. A 10 mph wind at 500 yards is a 12.1 inch drift for a 50 BMG, for a .308 winchestor it is a 21.3 inch drift.

JBM Ballistics online is a good reference if you want to put in the variables.

And if those Marines were shooters, they'd never let him set up behind the rifle like that, especially on camera.

Well don't leave us hanging gunny...what was wrong with his setup?

400m-600m shot. Pretty routine shot with a scoped rifle.

The muzzle blast makes it seem like it must have been some kind of big boomer.

You gotta practice the free throws more than the half court shots.

If we're going to nerd out on wind, in this scenario it really doesn't matter much. Flat open terrain with a relatively constant gust from muzzle to target means you only need to know the value and the hold.

You could EASILY stage that rifle on that range on that day to be a point and click proposition at 400 for someone who can shoot even a little tiny bit

Figuring out the wind and the hold off is where the real skill is.

I seriously doubt it was staged that way though. Someone undoubtedly had to tell him what the dope was at a minimum, as any knowledgeable shooter would certainly ask if it wasnt their rifle and their load but otherwise, he had to make the shot.

Tampon Tim would have broke his fingernail trying to pull the trigger then banned rifles bc they're too dangerous.

He’s a lot of things, but he is also a Marine. I’d expect him to be pretty damn good at this

Just imagine how incompetent Waltz's advisors had to be to not stage something like this, rather than his cluster frick of a "hunting" trip.

Staging this with literally any human being with a pulse on the planet would be very easy. They couldn't even make sure he knew what end of the shell to stick in a shotgun first.

And they released the video, right? Anyone of use would have just deleted the video and reshot the scene. Dumb.

I think regular people like us have trouble comprehending how detached those people are from the average rural American.

They released it because they thought it would resonate with someone like me.

I thought he had a cush job and never fired in active combat. Bush Sr fought, Shrub, not so much. These new age Republicans did fall far from their daddies tree. Sound bites have replaced sound hearts. Jarheads I grew up with would shake their heads at this dude.

Dunno about Waltz, never hunted with the man. Giva a man a goose gun tho and you don't have to be good.
