You guys giving him a hard time need to quit being a-holes.
I'm agonizing right now over whether to put down my 16 yr old terrier. Many of us who make that tough decision have been wrestling with it for months, it's not a spur of the moment decision. We have a 4 yr old terrier who needs a buddy. When the time comes I won't hesitate to get him a new friend, and it won't mean that I don't miss the old dude any less.

We had to put our 15.5 year old girl down last Monday. We're still dealing with it. It's better but no one ever talks about how there's a distinct hole in the energy of your home when a dog you've had that long is now no longer there.
We're dog people but it's going to be a loooooooooooong time before we get another.
