As they should. They are more important than us.

Right now the New Orleans area is in a panic over the low water flow in the Mississippi River due to the drought and possible salt water getting into more drinking water supplies

Drove over the river in Vicksburg and it is the lowest I’ve ever seen it.

Build a Dam and Locks. Raise the river water level above the Gulf water. Probably too much river traffic to be feasible.
They could build a pipeline from up the river several miles where there is fresh water.

One issue with locks, is when the river is high.

You are not going to control that much water beyond keeping in the channel.

Just look at some of the new passes that opened up on the east side of the river.

Well someone at Fox 8 must have read this post. They asked USACE if it could be done.

Basically, USACE said that it is not a viable option since both the Mississippi and and Red Rivers are running at reduced flows due to the drought. Altering the flow would not significantly increase the flow in the Mississippi and slow the wedge. It could also affect Morgan City drinking water supplies.

New Orleans Sewarage & Water Board have already put their freshwater plans into action (Instagram Video)

No need to use pipes to ship water in now. They have decided to flood the streets with fresh water.

Nuts. You don’t have a clue about the Mighty Mississippi River.

Drastically.

I wish everyone here could go to the ORCS System. Study it , the past 100 years of history of the area and understand it.

I’m surprised opening the Morganza Spillway being opened hasn’t been mentioned.

Update:

USACE is reevaluating the idea of altering the the Old River Control Structure and allowing more freshwater temporarily down the main channel since the Red River is rising due to recent rains in Texas.

Somebody at USACE must monitor this board.

I have a solution...

More global warming.

The caps will melt, overflow all those beaver dams in Canada, make its way to the upper Midwest, and then flow down the river.
