Loving this 44mm ProPilot GMT, but I’m new to the watch game.

How is the quality/reputation of Oris? Also, is 44mm too big for a 7in wrist?

Oris makes some cool watches. To me 44mm would be too big for a 7in wrist but if you like it that’s all that matters.

Here's an affordable watch of the same style by Timex for anyone reading doesn't have $3k for a watch.

Timex Expedition Scout

This puppy is on sale for $42 right now. Only complaint is that the movement is extra loud.

Oris is solid value for the money. You should be able to get 20% off on that particular model in a brick and mortar. This is the time of year to be watching Jomashop, you might get it a lot cheaper.

Oris remains independent which is rare for a watch company at the price point (or any price point really). They make good watches and I really like a lot of their designs. They use mainly Sellita movements which are more or less copies of ETA movements so they are good movements. They also make in-house movements but at a higher price point.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy or recommend Oris.

ETA forgot the 44mm on a 7" wrist. It depends more on the shape of the wrist than the circumference. A round wrist will have a hard time pulling it off, a very flat wrist if will be fine. People try to make the watch head diameter and the wrist circumference be the be all end all but it has as much to do with the lug-to-lug and angle of the lugs as the diameter and shape of the wrist is actually more important than the size.

Thanks! Jomashop has this model for $990, thinking of pulling the trigger. Just concerned it may be a little too big, but it’s so nice at a great price.

Oris is a fine watch for someone looking to get into “nice watches”.

I got that same watch for my son for graduation from LSU. It’s a quality piece for the price.

I see it listed as a 51mm L2L so most people with a 7" wrist will be OK with it, especially on a strap instead of a bracelet and as long as they don't have a really round wrist which is the bane of watch lovers. since you have the rough dimensions you could make a paper cutout and place it on your wrist. I have seen sites where you can print of watch silhouettes but I don't remember any of them off hand. If you find one you could prink off a couple of 44mm watches just to get an idea. I have everything from 36mm to 47mm (with very short lugs) so I am very comfortable with a wide variety of sizes where some people are not so I am not really the person to ask as I might be wearing a 37mm Daytona one day and a 47mm Radiomir the next.

Thanks again! I think my wrist is a little flatter on top so that makes me feel better about this one.

I'd only be concerned if that crown rubbed/irritated the back of my hand. Aggressive looking serrations. I've had watches almost callous a spot on the back of my hand before. I'd definitely want to try one on.

Those issues have a lot to do with where and how tight you wear a watch. Some people wear their watch on or below the ulnar head which looks downright masochistic to me.

Oris is fantastic- a Divers 65 will be my next watch unless I finally get the call for a Pepsi bezel, Jubilee bracelet, GMT Master II that I’ve been waiting for for a few years now. I like watches, have plenty, and Oris is on my list FWIW.

For sport watches an F-91W Casio.

For classic watches a Rolex.

Anything else sucks.
