Oris makes good quality watches. Another watch to consider in the same price range is the Nomos club.

I just bought the 41mm big crown pro pilot non gmt on a strap yesterday and I have an 8” wrist. I like the size and would be concerned with the bigger variant feeling too large. I have an Omega that’s 43.5mm and it also feels right on my wrist, but to me the actual dial, not the case size makes the difference. My initial impressions are good. I wanted an everyday watch that has function over style and with a screw down crown and 100 meters water resistance, it certainly fits the bill. The face, while black in some light, is grey in others which I think I like. I would recommend trying it, or a similar style/size watch on and seeing for yourself. I have bought sight unseen and been disappointed with myself for not doing my due diligence. I don’t think you will be disappointed with the quality. I had read some disparaging remarks about the strap, but to me, it one of the best features of the watch. Good luck.

Why do people say this?

Patek Philippe is top tier- yes

So is Vacheron Constantin

Do either make classic sport or diver styles? Not really.

Does Patek Philippe have a waitlist? Yep.

Just like Rolex.

In fact- I would say some Rolex models today are much more exclusive than most anything- even though the list price is much less.

Example-

Go try to get a Daytona by walking in a Rolex AD or boutique.

Go try to get an Aquanaut by walking in a Patek AD or boutique.

Bet you get the Aquanaut faster.

Nothing triggers this forum more than a watch thread. It’s really weird.

I have an Oris and I love it. I’ll get another one at some point.

Oris is fantastic- a Divers 65 will be my next watch unless I finally get the call for a Pepsi bezel, Jubilee bracelet, GMT Master II that I’ve been waiting for for a few years now. I like watches, have plenty, and Oris is on my list FWIW.

Good luck — I got the call for the BLNR a week ago. Last piece I was really really wanted. I’ll be out the game for a while (at least a few years) — I think…

Maybe but watch threads are consistently some of my favorite threads on tOT. Classic OT material really. And this is from a guy who only owns exactly one sort of nice watch.

Thanks! One of my old bosses- and super influential in my life wore a Pepsi.

When I got into watches, Rolex had just started to talk about bringing the Pepsi back- so I waited for the mythical ceramic bezel Pepsi.

Worst part- you will understand- 2016, I am in the Rolex boutique in Heathrow. Guy hands me a BLNR, and with the exchange rate at the time, it would have been right north of $7k.

“No thanks, I’m gonna wait for a stainless Pepsi”

Quite possibly the dumbest maneuver of my life.

Anytime I see a post that says Rolex is for wannabes, or Rolex sucks, or who needs to wear any watch....I know the comment is either rooted in jealousy or ignorance.

The fact is Rolex makes nice watches that maintain value. Another fact is some people enjoy wearing a watch, whether for convenience or happiness.

My unqualified opinion is that Rolex makes beautiful, high quality watches that are overwhelmingly bought by people who don’t know as much about other watchmakers.

Yes and no. My last two purchases are Rolex, but I also have Omega, IWC, and Panerai. My grail is probably a gold, blue dial VC overseas.

The Rolex GMT is probably my favorite watch made — the thing is no one makes a great alternative (planet ocean GMT is really big).

But I also agree, people who just want an expensive watch and know nothing about watches 90% of the time gravitate to Rolex. I actually was fairly anti-rolex when I first got into watches for that reason.

My hot take Speedmaster Moonwatch > modern Daytona (screw down pushers on a chrono are not for me).

Since we're talking abut these two, here's a couple of pics to properly hijack the thread, lol.

Old School Pepsi GMT Master II on Jubilee (16710)

Current Speedmaster Pro Moonwatch (Hesalite) - pushing the bounds of size for my 6.75" wrist. I actually wear this one on black gator more than on the bracelet.
