Costs that much to service a Patek? Jesus.

$1k sounds like a pretty solid price for the service.

That’s insane. I don’t understand spending that kind of money on jewelry or accessories.

It’s an asset that never depreciates. In fact, it appreciates in value faster than having 12k in a savings account.

Good luck. Was talking to my local AD earlier this week and he told me he sold a Daytona to a customer on Monday after the guy dropped $168,000 on other jewelry during that visit.

. If it needs to be sent to someone like Michael Young to restore and tighten it up that is a cost consideration just like whether it needs a service or not.

I have sent several bracelets to Michael Young and it is really amazing what he can do. One of them was a 93160 with the 592 solid end links that went on a 16660 and Rolex said there was no way to repair. He made it look like brand new. I would say he is the best in the world at what he does for the price.

That brought up a couple of thoughts related to Patek.

While Patek might do the same for a bracelet one good albeit potentially massively expensive Patek will fix any watch that they have every produced. Now if you have a minute repeater from the 20s and need a part it is going to be painful but there is a level of comfort few other manufacturers give.

The second thought is the utterly useless fact of the day. Patek made the first Swiss bracelet watch for some countess in Hungary in the mid 19th century.

I’m still amazed that I got two Daytonas in one calendar year.

That is an excellent deal on a classic dress watch.

What's with the OT and watches. Do you guys wear track suits, thick gold chains and diamond stud earrings too?

To me it is weird because the only person I know that has/had a nice watch collection also had 2 bearded dragons, a cat, and grew mushrooms. Weird dude. Granted the OT is pretty weird but I've worked with some serious ballers that could afford high end watches. Only one had a collection. He bought and sold quite a bit and at any given moment would have 10-15. It is fascinating and Everytime I'd go hang out with the dude he would show me his newest purchase/trade.

I guess everyone has their thing. I get it but I could not wear a 10k dollar watch. I'd be too afraid something would happen to it. A collection in a drawer might be cool though. Kind of like my gun collection that got lost in a tragic boating accident.
