Got a job offer out in Plano, 99% chance I'm going to take it.

I'm coming from the greater Orlando area, so it seems like a certain upgrade, but wanted to see if anyone on the OT lives there or spent time there to get their thoughts on the area.

Got a couple of young kids, so looking in the Frisco-McKinney border area as of now for housing to get access to good schools.

Terrific area. Use the search function. There was a thread on Plano a couple of days ago.

Best part is you get access to everything Dallas has to offer while getting the perks of a top end suburb.

Live in SW Frisco. It's clean, safe, great schools. It's a beautiful bubble to raise kids in. Most people are in the 30-50 year old range with kids. Easy to meet people and make friends. Won't live here after my kiddo is grown but am very happy to raise him here.

I've lived in McKinney & Frisco for the past 12 years. I work up here and am very familiar with the area you're checking out.

We prefer the Frisco schools to McKinney, mainly because Frisco seems dedicated to having schools that are a little smaller. McKinney basically has three pretty damn big high schools and Frisco has 7 or 8 medium size schools. I know some that prefer bigger schools - but we like where we're at.

It's really easy to get to Dallas, and this area is great for kids. If you have any specific questions, I'll answer as best I can.

Thanks, I'll have to check it out.

I probably erred starting this thread in the middle of the LSU game, didn't even think of that.

The area around the Frisco-McKinney border isn't nearly as white as you think. Lots of South & East Asians in the area. But overall, Frisco is definitely pretty white.

Awesome, that's basically everything I've heard as well.

Wife and I just relocated to Willow bend area of Plano about 4 months ago. Before that we lived in the Woodlands, followed by Baton Rouge, Mandeville, and Denham Springs. Plano is far and away the best area I have lived in. We have a baby on the way due in November who has been diagnosed with Downs Syndrome through amniocentesis, so top notch school system was definitely a top priority for us when considering our options as far as moving.

We had considered all of the North Dallas suburb areas, particularly Garland, Addison, McKinney, Frisco, and Plano. I would strongly recommend either Frisco or Plano above any of the others.

We live at W. Parker Rd/Dallas North Tollway and it is so amazingly convenient to anything we need. Traffic sucks, especially since the George Bush Turnpike on ramp is like 2 exits up from us, but that's the ONLY complaint. Our decision between Plano and Frisco was who had quicker availability between the apartment complexes we were considering, so I can honestly say both of those would be a great choice.

You'll not run into any issues honestly except for the sheer density of people there now. Yes, hoods are tight lot lines and traffic is heavy but everyone around you deals with the same issue. It's a nice quality of living for upper mid class and typical of what anyone would enjoy around the area. Does it have a UP ease to high caliber eateries? No. But a date night drive south is cool if you want it to be.

I am about to move there from Houston, only doing so because my wife took the kids and filed for divorce up there.

From what I can tell the Dallas area sucks compared to Houston.

I grew up in Plano...great area for family and schools and a 15-20 minute drive to downtown Dallas and plenty of things to do in the north Dallas/Plano/Frisco areas.

No I've lived in both cities and the cities are
similar inside the city limits but the Dallas suburbs are better than the Houston burbs.

We moved to Frisco back in March and we love it. We picked Frisco because of the schools. 70% of our property tax goes to the INDEPENDENT school district.

We really liked Willow Bend but found a more move in ready home in a nice neighborhood in Frisco.

Plano is not. Like someone else said, many if the areas of Plano that used to be white are now trending towards an Indian/Asian population, especially among families with young kids.

I've lived in Plano, Frisco, and McKinney. They were all great places to live but I'd have to rank them McKinney>Plano>Frisco. The area in McKinney where I lived has front driveways while the others had alleys. That made a big difference to how well we got to know neighbors. McKinney's downtown is a fun attraction. Plano was convenient to everything. Frisco seemed to have an angry vibe at times. I noticed more road rage in Frisco than the other areas.

If you have young kids and you're sending them to public school, I'd recommend McKinney.
