Probably GM, although I'm open to other options. I won't be using it for heavy hauling, but I do need to tote stuff once in a while. A longbed crewcab seems like it would be a PITA to maneuver. I could go with an extended cab if I had to, but I'm thinking the crewcab would be better for my passenger needs.

I would get an Avalanche if they still made them. I've been told the short wheelbase crewcab has a significantly rougher ride, but it looks to me like it's basically the same vehicle, sans the covered box.

I have one; a '15 Sierra and love it. It tows my bass boat and there's room (diagonally) for my 7'6" rods. Unless you have to haul something REALLY big, get the shortbed & if you have to haul something really big, rent a trailer.

I had a 5'6" box on my 2006 KR.
Would not own again...

6.6 is way more versatile, especially when you haul 8' material.

8' bed on a crewcab makes for a really long truck; you'd have to go to the airport to turn around.

Nothing wrong with that, in theory.

I just bought an F150 SuperCrew, comes with the 5.5 foot bed. I liked it a bit better than the Chevy. Both nice trucks though.

Short bed will suffice 99% of the time

Is the hassle of parking worth the 1% of need?

I wouldn't mind a 6.5' bed but I don't have any regrets about my current short bed

I get around that with my 5.5 bed with a 12' trailer.

I've got a 2014 F-150 Crew Cab with the 5.6 bed. unless you haul stuff on a daily/weekly basis, there is really no need for the longer bed.

With the 5.6, I found once I added an undercover toolbox, I lost too much bed length.

If JR has no plans for that, he'll probably be fine.

As far as ride, the shorter wheelbase may contribute to a bit more bounce in the ride, but it will be minor, most likely.

Get the 2016 crewcab shortbed Colorado. They are really nice and have the Apple CarPlay which I have in my ride and if you use an iPhone nothing is better.

That's the main thing I like about the 8'

I have a huge tool box and still have almost 6' of bed left.

Yep.

I used a friend's 8 the other day to move some crap and loading in that was like luxury.

It was a regular cab, though.

I have a GMC crew cab swb and like it. Plenty of room to haul stuff and passengers in the back seat have enough legroom. The ride is better than I expected from a pickup truck.

I have a 5.5' bed with tool box. There's nothing i won't carry. 10' boards are fine with the tailgate closed, 12' is fine with the tailgate open. I've loaded 16' through the back window on occasion. I've also carried a lot of bricks and/or quikrete with no issues.
