Mines a single cab but I'm single with no kids so it works great. The gooseneck ball gets in the way sometimes though.
I would be miserable with those new 5'6" bed trucks. For one, they look stupid and two, there's no way you can fit much back there

Mine came w/ the bed extender, which not only took up tons of room, but was pretty much worthless.
I took it out the first day and put it back in when I traded it in.

I'm buying a Crewmax tundra that has a 5.5 bed. If I need plywood or something it can stick up out of the top of the tailgate.

No, in a 6.6 bed 8' material fits cross-ways.
You can get an f-250 8' Crew. You have to put red flags on the back though.
