frick no I'm not giving them condoms.

They have to do that long walk down the aisle of the pharmacy to that little corner display, agonize over the right "kind", finally decide on ribbed for her pleasure, buy $50 worth of random shite and finally make their purchase while trying not to make eye contact with the elderly check out clerk.

JUST LIKE DAD!

Seriously, how is this even a question? Sex is fun. Kids like to do fun things. Chances are, your kid is gonna frick in high school and college. Get over it and buy some rubbers or get ready to buy diapers.

Its a question because some parents don't believe in supplying their children with contraception.

Well, those parents are stupid or delusional.

But frick it, there's no age requirement to buy condoms. Kids will buy them whether their parents give them to them or not.

The problem is that some of them won't. They'll just do like me and play the pull out game and hope to get lucky.

I like the reversible vasectomy idea too. Just make it a right of passage like a bar mitzvah.

Son, you are now a man...

SNIP!

You'll thank me later.

Holy frick dude.

I give my kids lunch money. I don't check to see if they feed themselves. I give my kids allowances and they have jobs. I don't check to see if they are buying birth control. Its a question of THEIR personal responsibility. It's my job to educate them, not to baby the frick outa them. Damn.

Difference being that if they skip lunch they probably won't put their entire future in jeopardy. They are called children until they are 18 for a reason. A hormonal teenage mind can really play tricks and convince itself that "Oh it will never happen to me".

You are foolish for taking this stance IMHO.

Providing birth control IMO is like buying them alcohol on prom night. Hey guess what, I ain't doing that shite either.
What about the women who need them to regulate their periods?

It's kind of a different scenario. Girls who take BC for other medical conditions usually need them pretty badly...I know of some girls who couldn't get out of bed for a few days a month without BC medication. So if someone denies their daughter medication because it could also serve as BC, they're terrible. Even the Catholic Church says a girl can take BC for treatment of her gynecological conditions (I went to an all-girls Catholic high school so I heard all about it).

Whether a girl using it for that would also use it for actual BC...that's different, but how would that be a bad thing exactly?

Holy frick. Have any of yall heard of personal responsibility? What the frick are you teaching your children?

Sex is not always the greatest idea as a teen. I'm not subsidising or encouraging bad decision making by providing birth control. Now, if he or she still feel the need to have sex, then they can go buy a fricking condom. Providing birth control IMO is like buying them alcohol on prom night. Hey guess what, I ain't doing that shite either.

I give both of my kids lunch money every day, but I don't go to school to make sure they buy their fricking lunch. I give both of my kids an allowance every week, but I don't make sure they are buying birth control or putting gas in their cars or getting their grandmother a birthday present.

For the record, my wife and I managed to conceive both of our children on the Pill. I tell my kids every day, if you are gonna be stupid, you'd better be tough. Getting pregnant or getting someone pregnant as a teen is pretty fricking stupid.

IMO it's more equivalent to having an after-prom party at your house where you supply a reasonable amount of alcohol, no driving is allowed, and boys and girls sleep separately. If you acknowledge that all kids are gonna drink on prom night, I'd rather they did it under my watch with alcohol I bought instead of trying to buy it themselves and possibly getting arrested for a fake ID or being at a party that gets busted.

Now obviously this is different as (nowadays) you'll get all sorts of liability arguments for the parent, but at the heart of it, it's the same. Unless you have some porker loser, your kid will almost guaranteed have sex multiple times before they are married and likely before they're in college.

I'd like to guarantee they're being safe about it.

No, don't think that will be necessary for my teens.

I didn't have sex until college, and then I just went ape shite. I am disgusting.

I think I'd have a thorough conversation with either a son or daughter. I'd obviously be even more protective toward the daughter (I understand this is a double standard). Condoms and birth control are better alternatives than your kids getting pregnant. And also, kids, especially girls that are overprotected in high school, end up being the wildest.

There is only one form of birth control that is 100% effective and that's abstinence.

While not 100% effective, ovulation charting is as close as you can get while still having sex.

Not that any 17 year old is going to do that.
