My son is 2 and a half, and I think he's ready to start potty training.

Any suggestions? Advice?

Boys are a huge pain when it comes to shitting in the pot. When they are ready, they will.

We gave ours treats every time they went. Amazing what marshmallows will do Even after she was trained our youngest would go get her own every time she went.

Get ready for a lot of hiding behind things while he shits his pants.

It's a long road. Just keep on it. I'm almost at the end and mine is 3&1/2

It's sort of cool for a dad to teach him to pee on trees and bushes and basically anywhere. Makes moms mad too.

stop putting diapers on your kid. Very simple. take him to the bathroom every 30 minutes. You go cold turkey. did both kids that way at daycare. within 1-2 days, there were done.

mine will be 2 tomorrow. he's recently started working on it himself. we didn't do much, he just started telling us.

he still wears a diaper full time, and pees/poops in it more times than not, but it seems like he's going to make it easy on us.

I lucked up with my boy, but the neighbor's kid is 4 and still insists on putting on a pull-up and shitting in it instead of the toilet.

best thing to do is just stop putting the diapers on them. They will pee and poop all over themselves most likely, but once they do that a couple of times and realize the diaper isn't there to catch it, they will naturally not like the sensation.

and take them to the bathroom every 30 minutes like the poster above said. good luck

Did you do the naked method? Just let him run around naked so that he was aware that he didn't have a place to pee?

We started seriously potty training when my daughter turned 2

She now goes to school everyday without diapers or pullups at 2.5

She still sleeps with pullups though

She has an accident about once a week still

Told my step son Id buy him a pocket knife. He never wore a diaper again and 10 years later he still wants to know where his knife is

My 6 year old just did it on his own at about 2.

nope, we did the sent them to school with 4 outfits method. Honestly, i think my boy may have wet himself once or twice and then got hang of it. Helps a ton when they are with a group and see kid's doing it and they follow.

Don't they just let you know when they are ready to use a toilet? I don't have kids (obviously).

ETA: I remember when I was a kid my dad just told me "Look, you are getting to be too old for diapers, so you have to use the toilet." I think I was 2. I don't remember it being an issue and I was never a bed wetter.

I got lucky. Both of my boys were fully potty trained by the age of 2. Only would wear Pull-Ups at night. My oldest son just told me on his own, at about 1 1/2 that he wanted to "use the potty like me." So we just put him on there. Did the same with my younger son.

Once you put them in underwear, don't go back to diapers....ever. It might be messy for a bit, and they'll likely piss everywhere for a little while, they should get the point pretty quickly.

correct. it's cold turkey, kid's by nature don't like pissing on themselves.

Whenever mine peed or pooped in any place other than the toilet, I rubbed his nose in it. Seemed to work pretty well.
