For the 40+ year olds here:
Fire hydrants painted like Snoopy, R2D2, or stars & stripes.
They may still have some tody (I don't see them), but in the 70's, nearly every one was painted, especially during the 1976 Bicentennial.

A guy in high school had a 22 rifle in his truck. We fired off a few rounds into the hillside by the parking lot. The football coach came outside and yelled God Dammit yall quit shooting that rifle. That was the end of it. If you did it today you would be taken out by the SWAT Team.

I also remember going to the local grocery store and the owner adding up the bill on the brown paper bag with a pencil. Try getting someone to ring you up without a pricing wand or making change without the cash register telling them how much change they should give. Pretty sad.
