2.5 years of coursework for Mechanical Engineering at LSU. Then, I hit the "real" subject matter classes which kicked my arse. Sat out a semester then went back to school to pick up a useless English degree, then a Masters in Technical Writing, and then headed to law school.

have a frat bro that was a practicing neurosurgeon when he decided to go to law school. might be one of the most unusual paths to law school

Not sure why you are getting a hard time for what you said. I have read many people on a law website I lurk on say similar things about a law degree making you too over qualified and even looked down on for certain jobs

My ex wife got an English degree like your sweet gay arse. She didn't take any Poli Sci undergrad courses and did fine at LSU Law.

For me it was history, a generally useless degree but very useful if you plan to be a litigation attorney as it helps to develop your research and writing skills. Other good degrees for future litigators are english and philosophy, or really any discipline that involves having to research or analyze something and then write a paper about it. That's probably 50-60% of what I do on a daily basis.

If you want to be like a corporate or M&A attorney, you should major in business and finance. But get into the habit of getting good grades because those jobs are hard to get out of law school.

If you want to be a tax lawyer, then go accounting. Those guys can make a fortune. The subject matter was just way too dry for me (I considered it).

Law has so many applications.

I majored in History.

Since I've been admitted to practice for 44 years now I kinda feel like history.

Seems we have at least one thing in common, age.

Quiet, ageing isn't all that bad, in fact, I consider it a privilege to have made it this far. I look through the listings of the lawyers who have passed on when I get my monthly journals from DC, Virginia, and Maryland. While I still see many who are older, I am stunned by the number of folks who are considerably younger than I.

I wish you many more happy and healthy years.

Friend of mine got his B.S. in nursing and went straight to law school as planned, never worked s day as a nurse. Had no trouble landing a job, and has done really well. I know two other nurses that got a few years nursing experience and then went to law school, they also had no trouble getting good positions. I know 3 MDs that got law degrees, one quit actual medicine, and does work for large hospital corporations, one never used the degree, and retired, the third has not been able to pass the La Bar.

I can’t imagine going to med school and then law school. Seems like a huge waste

American History with a concentration in Southern American History. All I did was read, research and write term papers. Great prep for law school, the bar and litigation practice. But there was not much else I was qualified to do than enter law school, that earned a decent wage.

These were 3 people I actually knew, there are some other MD to lawyers I know of in Houston and California that have made fortunes doing medical malpractice.
