Out of Oklahoma. The Bar association orders lawyer to refund a client. Lawyer delivers check to OBA (Oklahoma Bar Association).

quote:

According to the complaint, Bailey was bringing a refund check to O.B.A. for a previous client.

So he brings the check over and asks that it be delivered to a particular Bar lawyer.

quote:

When the check was delivered, the complaint said the check had a "pinched indentation and there was a brown, damp smear across its front."

Forensic tests showed it to be, well, shite. That’s right. He got in trouble with the Bar, had to write a check, and apparently wiped with it.

(To paraphrase Spinal Tap, we don’t know if it was his feces. You can’t trace feces.)

If he’d really been on his game, he would have made sure the check was numbered 2.

The world continues to amaze me.

Bailey was charged in 2017 for assault and battery after he was accused of hitting a woman with his truck

Lawyers really are scum. Ya know that stuff Avenatti is charged with? The stealing from clients and creative bookkeeping handling client proceeds?

Yeah back in the 80's and 90's one of the big OK lawyers was doing the same stuff for his clients. Only thing the Bar got him for was the loans from proceeds of past cases being made to prepay clients he knew were a slam dunk future win. Charged new cases interest on the loans from old case proceeds. And he got caught like 3x over a decade before they took his state license!

Based on the Note Bene emails I get from the ODC every month, it’s not nearly that difficult to get disbarred in 2019

From what I hear, dipping into the trust fund is the number one way to get disbarred.

Yep. Pretty sure if you heat mapped those blurbs, “converted client funds” would be massive...

Some state bars even frown upon no interest loans to clients. I think loans to clients is a bad idea all around.
