wouldn't a neurologist be better given extensive symptoms? Sounds like more involved than nerve root impingement from bulging disc. I'm typing this from my room at Holiday Inn Express.

not necessarily
if MRI is showing bulging discs, he needs to see the ortho, but the ortho will consult neurosurgeon before surgery is done either way

MRI of lumbar spine
Had MRI of lumbar and thoracic. Lumbar revealed 3 small bulging discs at 2mm in size. L2, L3, L5-S1

You have no idea what you're talking about. Med students should be smart enough to not give medical advice.

I saw neurologist on Friday. He diagnosed as peroneal nerve compression below knee. The numbness in right butt cheek and thigh didn't really begin in earnest until this past Monday.

True story, the most common cause of arse cheek, leg, and lower back pain/numbness in men is sitting on your wallet. Make sure you're not doing that first.
This and or sitting on a leg. I STILL do this shite. I sit like a 9 year old boy. And I know it's bad for me. Just habit. I will sit with foot or lower leg under my arse.
I believe all of the scary shite you may be reading about though in relation to urinary symptoms are ruled out by an MRI? Cauda Equina is what comes to my mind. People have loss of bowel and bladder control.
Nerve injuries suck and are slow to heal. Try all the conservative shite first. Don't run to a surgeon. Most reputable surgeons will want you to try meds and PT first.
Good luck.

I would not let an orthopedist deal with spinal and nerve issues.
If you go surgery go neurosurgeon.
If you go surgery go neurosurgeon.

But that 4 week rotation through Ortho...

Trust me, if i thought that was it, I'd agree. But I've been doing a keto diet since May and have lost some weight and have been feeling great. I'm definitely not a fatty by any standard definition.
Stop working out. Stop anything that aggravates pain or numbness. Nerve injuries cannot be "worked through". Takes decompression of nerve roots and time.
"Mackenzie Therapy" did wonders for my neck. C6-c7 radiculopathy. I do not know if it translates in any way to lumbar though?

Wait... who read the MRI? Your chiro?
If you really have spinal nerve impingement, you need to go see a spinal neurosurgeon, not a neurologist, not an ortho, and definitely not a chiropractor!

I have 3 2mm bulging disks in my lower lumbar... One is L5-S1
if you do have disk disease at this level it could account for your symptoms.
the L4-S2 are the spinal roots that innervate the lower leg and foot
while foot drop could occur with damage to the peroneal nerve (and often does) your symptoms along with the more proximal thigh and gluteal numbess point more towards a spinal issue
don't waste time with a PCP or chiropractor. go see a spine orthopod

Sounds like you have deactivated glutes, similar to Tiger Woods.

I just read this part, it may be just peroneal nerve damage
do you have any weakness in flexion/extension of your knee?

Before i go reading your novel, going rate for medical advice is $150/hr.

Wait... who read the MRI? Your chiro?
Chiro ordered MRI. My PCP said it wasn't necessary at this stage. I freaked out when the urinary issues started and googled and saw the Cauda Equina Syndrome so wanted MRI.
MRI was read by radiologist who sends report to Chiro. My Chiro also consulted a neurologist.
So far, Chiro has done nothing to me but the MRI actually doesn't suggest any nerve impingement. I'm hoping its piriformis?
My neurologist, whom I wasn't thrilled with, only did nerve conduction below knee on leg with drop foot. Didn't mention MRI at all.
So, should I make an appt with an orthopedist who specializes in the spine? I'm in Dallas, so there are good doctors here. Just need to find one that won't take me 6 months to get an appointment.

Prob need steroid injections. See if you can get in to see a pain management doc.
