Seriously, it does.

I never, I mean EVER, get sick.

13 years in the field working knee-deep in MRSA, C-diff, you name it.

Only time I've had a reaction from flu shot.

That's just your body's immune system responding to the flu shot. Totally normal and expected from the flu shot(or any vaccination for that matter). That's why I always get mine when I'm off work the next day or two just in case I'm not feeling 100% the next day or so.

fooled you. Its against the law and if fired, a lawsuit would be filed immediately

That sounds logical but it's the same here is California. If CNA isn't powerful enough to stop you from being dismissed for refusal, I would imagine their is some legal loophole that allows the hospital to require it....similar to arbitration clauses.

I guarantee nurses/doctors/those working in hospitals or other medical type places wash their hands WAYYYYY more than those working in an office environment

Yup As many times I have ben in the Hospitals this year... I assure you that the docs and nurses stay super clean.....People just don't realize how important it is to wash your hands a TON...............People say I am crazy that I wash my hands all day long.. But until this year I never really got sick. Maybe the crud once every other year or so............

if you dont take the shot, you are required to wear a mask. Thats the loophole. 99/100, people just take the shot because it is so much easier.

Again, incorrect. You don't have to take the shot but you can not care for patients here without taking it. You will be suspended for the duration of flu season which is termination as it lasts more than 180 days. If the nations largest nursing Union has lost this fight I can assure you it cannot be won. I have known one RN who was exempt due to medical reasons. Get the shot or get fired that's how they roll out here.

actually very few contagions are actually strictly 'airborne' lime carried by the wind or through air vents, most virus like the cold or flu is transferred through air droplets which while can travel through the air their range is still very limited.

The droplets containing the germ are floating through the air right? They are airborne, right? Yes.

But, I thought that the droplets were microscopic and could pass through a surgical mask. Is that so?

Working in a school you build up a decent immunity after awhile, but I've noticed when I do get sick I get hit hard.

I've been at home with a bad case of strep for the first time in about a decade this week. It sucked.

Sooooo why did you get the shot?

This is my only reason for being anti flu shots. I'm 28, and I'm not sure if I've ever been sick more than a handful of times. I've also never gotten the flu so I'm def not gonna try to fix what sure as hell ain't broken.

Maybe when I'm elderly and the flu is truly dangerous, but for now I go with what I've done all along.

I've been an RN for over 17 years. When I first started I had a cold/scratchy throat sort of thing often. Now I rarely, if ever get sick even if others around me are. I take a crap load of supplements plus stay in good shape. Our pharmacist told me the exercise and all the vitamins/supplements has my immune system on steroids. It's a little costly but worth it since I frigging hate being sick.

Just FYI, the only supplements that have been proven (by research) to be helpful are zinc (once you get sick) and vitamin c (taken in large doses before you get sick). Not saying the others don't help, but the research is scant on other supplements.

cwil, you are probably right my friend. But I just know I rarely ever get sick (knock, knock) and I do take a pile of supplements. Who knows, maybe it is just a coincidence, but I ain't pushing it.
