At what point should I go see about an umbilical hernia? I have a pretty nice size bulge with some tenderness when I press on it.Ive been told that it can become serious if left untreated.

Go get it looked at.

You shouldn’t have an umbilical hernia at your age.

Now.

My relative had one that ended up getting accidentally ruptured during a surgery for something else. Nearly died of sepsis.

What a question, are you hoping to hear someone tell you just give it a few weeks?

Your intestine can get "caught" and can become necrotic. And you want absolutely no part of that. Definitely see a doc.

My bulge is also tender and sensitive. I touch it multiple times throughout the day.

Do you show it to your patients?

Why would you not want to have it checked?

Had one last year. They had me in surgery within 24 hours. Apparently the doc thought it was serious. Go see an Internal Medicine doc.

This guys are all being hysterical. OT Baws don’t go to the doctor. It will be fine. Don’t worry about it. It will probably go away on its own anyway.

You don't need a doctor to tell you that if you are concerned enough to post about it to the internet you should just go get it looked at.

I had one a few years ago. No big deal until it became strangulated. That’s when it’s serious and it needs to be repaired asap. It’s a ticking time bomb. Get it checked asap.

Change your socks and drink more water and you will be fine.

Just kidding, you should have had it looked at when you found it.

No go see a general surgeon. They will make the recommendation depending on the size, symptoms etc.
