OT Ballers, why don't you retire and spend time with your family?

I'm just wondering what makes your career more important than your children? If you already have a million dollars what do you hope to accomplish by having 2 million? If you have 5 million what do you hope to accomplish by having 10?
For less than $500k, you could get a killer Villa on the ocean, put the rest your money in rental houses and live off the income.
With 1 million, you could buy the villa while also having 4K a month in income in an area where luxury living costs about $1,500/month per couple(without rent/mortgage) $2,500 if renting.
What motivates you to spend time with strangers who don't really care about you, and be absent from your children's lives?

This isn't restricted to OT ballers, If your net worth is just 500k, you could easily live off the rent income of a few properties. It might not be a beach villa, but will at least certainly be better than some flooded McMansion in Livingston parish.

A million isn't much these days and is worth less and less the more money we keep printing.

Most of Asia excluding Japan, Singapore, and certain cities in China.
Pretty much all of South or Central America excluding one or two countries or islands, and two or three cities.

I have rental properties. They’re a lot of work unless you’re willing to pay 10% to some realtor who will “manage” them for you.

I choose to live in the first world and keep working.

Basically they just take the first month, and you get the rest.
US homes are tied to dollars, asset appreciation, and rental prices increase with inflation so your relative equity standing and income are protected..... right?

Yes, and a two million dollar apartment in New York City is a piece of crap.
But people rather slave away in a 2 million dollar apartment that they bought for 500k 20 years ago, then to cash out and live.

My ex wife still has 12 years left on her 18 year YTM bond aka child support. So I have to keep working until then. I’ll retire the day he graduates from high school.
