Big 4 consulting hits the seven figure mark at the Partner level but Audit and Tax are unlikely making that much unless you are a lead in a bigger market.

25 years old. So 2 years out of school. Currently 27.

But I live like I make 50k. 15% to the 401k. Nearly done with student loan debt. Paid off the vehicle I was forced to buy when my 16 year old truck died.

After that all I will have is my mortgage.

Honestly I should have probably been born Jewish.

See, your older CE grads are ahead of the curve.

I went back for my CE degree after graduating in English and Psychology then working in HR for 3 years. I am also blessed/cursed with the gift of salesmanship.

I have far outpaced my younger CE peers.

yea everyone I know that went in to design never spent time in the field and can not sell nor do they understand anything outside of the what the book says. IMO they are useless other than to just design. and I always looked at it as most engineers work for years and get their PE and then hope they get into a management position. I kind of skipped a few steps.

as far as the salesmanship, that and estimating is what sets a good engineer apart from a superstar that is ready for upper level management, at least on the contractors side in the industrial environment. and if you can do those things and understand high level financials, well only the market you choose cna hold you back.

Never, make 45k a year being a warehouse lead. Never been married, served 4 years in the service... saved some cash and got out. Living life and will probably never see 100k in a year but thats ok, life is fine and I am content with where I am and who I am. Money is nice but it most certainly isn't everything.

All these ot ballers claim to have it all, but all I see is a lot of posts about the problems they have.

You would have been better off explaining you than background because you make it sound like you were a 23 year old EI when in fact you were likely 30+ with some great experience

Not knocking but it was somewhat deceiving.

I sell paper and paper products though so I make a fraction of 100k. But my boss is leaving so I maybe getting a promotion. Gonna run this office like a dictator.

I do run a bed and breakfast on the side though

Really matters the area where you're at.

I started making 100k+ at 29 up north with just an undergrad degree.

I started making $100K in the deep south at 31.

There is a huge difference.

We're in Houston.....

Directors don't do too shabby either where some knock on $500k and they don't have the buy-in.

All-in-all, the partner track leads to potentially huge bucks BUT the road is rough, yet hitting Sr Mgr and jumping to industry and settle down for a $200k-$350k job is also pretty good.

FTR, my spouse is the accountant......

I need to go private sector. Apparently that's where the bucks are at. I'm over here feeling good about government job making 100K+, you people around here making 200K+ in the private sector.

you'll likely love this...just yesterday I had a County PM call in concerning an question the contractor had on site.

I called our young engineer/PM in, put him on speaker phone, and after hem-n-hawing we told him *(County PM) we'd call back.

I then said, "hold on for a sec, let me call my buddy......he's a contractor." Kid was dumbfounded I would consult guidance from the dark side. I reminded him that a wise engineer understands a quality contractor is his best resource for real time issues. I also come from a general construction family background (i'm called the enemy).

All that said, I do more business development and relationship building than anything. I'm better at baffling with bullshite than dazzling with brilliance.

I work as a project manager in industrial and came in with experience. Worked two Turnarounds and with bonus/ vehicle allowance was over 100. Not your typical 2nd year either as I graduated at 32 with over 10 years in the field plus 2 years of fire protection engineering. So yea you didn't get the whole story, just a snap shot and don't blame you for saying wtf as I would have also

well, hell.....apples and oranges. your 10 years outweighs the CE degree.

Yep, I've never hit 100k and don't care to. I'm very content where I am.

Thats me except any complicated large projects I get called in to atleast pre plan at a minimum but usually I run them. and yea I get called almost everyday from the one of the 3 large consulting firms around here asking questions. I have been offered by all three and would not go work for them. I would never want to work at a place that is up and down like the firms are around here unless it was senior level management.

as far as the BD part goes, honestly I wish more people understood this is how you prove your worth to the company. Bringing in revenue is the quickest way to earn respect and to move up.

hmmm

I sit at my desk (in my relatively large corner office with city view), drive my company auto to business meetings/lunches/dinners/happy hours, and I weigh 239 lbs. And, my kids are large children with 7th grade twins coming on at 6' 180lbs and are lean as shite with outstanding morals.

myth.....busted!

ETA: know this, had you not thrown in reverse animosity (shows you actually do have a bone to pick with higher earners), I wouldn't have typed that douchebag shite.

good on ya Roger

honestly, I don't really know what my W-2 says as far as earnings because it all goes to family and such. I often live in a child-like financial world of ignorance......my ego is more based on organic things like job titles, contracts I win, etc. I'm actually shocked I have not gone head-first down the road of competition looking at my peers salary packages. oh well, less to upset me;)

but seriously safety guy?

Well the plan is not to really be a “safety guy”. End game is to be HES specialist and later HES coordinator. I have an emergency response background along with being a volunteer firefighter and on the plants volunteer emergency response team.

Basically the job I want when I get tired of shift work will be coordinating the emergency response team training and personnel.
