I know a guy who had an offer from a firm in Memphis, TN, of all places.. and the salary was $100k a year, which as they explained to him, would be like making $180k a year in New York City.. so, even though he was top of his class at Harvard law, he accepted the job in Memphis.. but then he noticed a lot of shady ish going on with the firm, they bugged his house and were listening to he and his wife’s conversations, all kinds of creepy stuff.. eventually, he found a way to escape the firm and got out of Memphis.

You didn't hear the rest. Dude, his wife and the dog were all found gutted in a older Toyota a few days later. His brother and another womans charred remains were found in a sailboat.

I’ll never forget seeing the movie during it’s original release in the theater.. i was SO disappointed in the ending, actually the entire last third of the movie.. in the book, he and Abby escape with $10 or $15 million, and are on a sailboat in the Caribbean with a plan to do nothing but drink rum and make babies for the rest of their days.. in the movie, it was just some nonsense about overbilling, and not nearly as exciting or satisfying IMO.

I think by now you get that there really is no simple answer to your question. Part of the issue is location and a bigger part is how the firm is set up. You can look at the PPP of the firm to get an idea but the junior partners may be a non-equity/income partner which is more of a title than what most non-lawyers think of as a partner.

The answer could be $80k in some firms and 400-500K as a first-year JP in others, with some JPs earning 7 figures near the end of their track.

Attorneys are a profession where the income at any given point in the career track varies substantially. There are guys in practice 25 years that basically scratch by and others that after 25 years make mid-7 figures.

Location, size of the firm, type of law, equity partner, etc. Need details and pics of wife/gf/mom to make true determination.

Let’s say it’s working for Gordon or Dudley and Debossier?

Depends. Best friend does IP, IT, software licensing, etc and makes an ungodly amount of money. Never considered JP as far as I know just Equity Partner. Easily 7 figs.

Is “junior partner” at your firm an actual title?

It just varies a lot. "Junior partner" isn't even a phrase that I hear much anymore. Typically the divide is more along lines of "income"/non-equity vs. equity. There are some firms where it's still fairly common to see equity transitions for associates, but probably less than pre-recession.

Often, at least for big law firms around here, there isn't a ton of difference between senior associate and initial income partner salaries. Think low/mid 200s vs. mid/high 200s.

Well, apparently he was moonlighting on the side as a sports agent.. but then he lost all of his clients, with the exception of this one egomaniacal WR from Arizona... but then he met this single mother who had a cool kid, he got a huge contract for his Arizona client and that pretty much completed him.

And there are people who make 800grand one year and 75 grand the next depending on what walks in and drops sometimes huge on your desk.
Varies a great deal and is not necessarily dependent on the economy. M
