I found that Juco football spring training was the catalyst that transformed me into the sawed-off beast that I am today. Two-hour 5am circuit drills in an 85°, non-air conditioned, 60 year old gym followed by afternoon weights and stadium runs (not to mention disciplinary up-downs for team infractions) before crossfit was even conceptualized. Coach was always telling us that if we decided to join the Marines, we'd be ready for boot camp. Talked to my Devil-Dog cousin who enlisted a couple of years later and he said yes, boot camp would've been a breeze, minus the arse-whoopings. Best shape of my life.

These days I'm happy if I don't tweak my back lifting a case of beer, but it's all good.

It's all good I am just passing time at work. We get it you are NOT an OT elite athlete like the other 95% on here.
I don't post here often because I don't meet the physical or financial requirements to be an active OTer or else I would've known it was a story from the past

For me it was simple survival. I'm short, and I liked to play football. You can get away with being short in HS football, but you can't get away with being short and tiny.

A 6' guy in HS can weight 175 and get away with being that thin. But, at my height, you just can't walk out onto the field at 135 and think that shite's gonna work.

I also learned that lower body was the answer VERY early. I mean, I can get as big as I want in the arms and chest and I'm not gonna push some 250lb guy off me. But, I figured out pretty quick that strong lower body and core allowed me to drive thru arm tackles.

So, I guess the answer is, I learned damned quick.

I think if you are any kind of athlete I think in high school is where people can begin to separate themselves by simply beginning to lift or some kind of conditioning. Of course you will have some freak black guy running 4.35 forty saying yeah I never worked out a day in my life.

When I ran a 4.1 40.

I honestly think it would have been faster if I had not tripped over my penis, and I didn't have all that extra cash in my pockets weighing me down.

Sounds like age is just catching up on you. Hell as a high schooler I could just get up and haul arse. Running anyway. Other sports need some type of training/ conditioning to excel though. My daughter's travel soccer team was ranked number 1 in the nation. The thing that separated them from other teams was their conditioning. They ran 2 hours during practice and did speed and conditioning at those athletic places. Overkill I thought but it did make a difference.

A couple months after I first started working out. The question to you is, what do you consider "working out"? I played sports all my life. My dad started me "working out" when I was about in 5th grade....Not with weights at that time, but a set routine of calisthenics. That was just before a basketball season started. I could feel the difference within a month or so.

Are you 12? I can still do that and I'm over 45.....And fat.

I see that too. Tards. I knew he was about my age.

Honestly it never occurred to me until much later and was rugby. In college I never bought into training on off days aside from a gym workout at the Rec. But after while college playing for top-tier men's rugby club, I noticed the First XV(starters) were very active on off days, mostly putting in miles on the streets.

I got a clue quickly. Within weeks it Was night and day on the pitch. I felt like a tard for not adopting those habits while playing college rugby. Lot of what-ifs.
