Oracle stock roared 40% higher on Wednesday after reporting gobsmacking cloud demand numbers, setting the company on track for a historic gain. The cloud giant is on pace for its best day since 1992, and is now quickly approaching the $1 trillion market cap benchmark. Oracle is now at $950 billion.
The company said Tuesday after the bell that it has $455 billion in remaining performance obligations, up 359% from a year earlier.
“This is a very historic kind of print right here from Oracle with this backlog,” Ben Reitzes, technology research head at Melius Research, told CNBC’s “Closing Bell: Overtime” on Tuesday. “The Street was looking for about $180 billion in RPO and they’re talking about a number that is a multiple of that. That is astounding.”
Oracle has been one of the biggest benefactors of the artificial intelligence boom thanks to its cloud infrastructure business and its access to Nvidia’s graphics processing units, or GPUs, which are both needed to run large workloads. But competition is fierce, and Oracle is jostling with other cloud providers like Microsoft, Amazon and Google for customers.
Oracle’s founder, Larry Ellison, is set to add about $100 billion to his net worth. Bloomberg reported that he has topped Tesla CEO Elon Musk as the world’s richest person.

Yeah neither are the richest on Earth. You know how I know this to be true? Because we know their names.

Maybe he can waste another $10 million on a QB for next year to finish 8-4

I *did* own the stock. Until this morning when I saw it was up 37.something%.
Oracle is truly sinister, and genius at developing ways to get as much money as possible from customers. They give customers the ability to download any product patches and if they notice you downloaded something you weren't supposed to, they'll audit & fine the hell out of them for doing so. They create gray areas with licensing where what should be obvious is actually deception and whoops look at that, you owe us another $220k. I strongly urge any company looking to buy anything Oracle to consult with an Oracle licensing analyst first. And don't ever accept their 'bundle' offer while negotiating price, if you ever stop using anything that was bundled you'll still pay for its support one way or another. Want to shelve those licenses? Okay no problem but we are shifting that support cost to something you still use... it's in the contract, didn't you read it?
Support costs are retarded considering their support is AWFUL, and it will go up 8% every year. If Oracle catches wind you're dropping them and going with a competitor's product? Expect an audit notice later that week, and they WILL find something. Did you accidentally install something you shouldn't have, then immediately uninstall it? That's okay, their audit scripts will find the fact it was installed at some point and you'll be forced to pay for it. They are The Devil. /rant
But what they've done with their cloud infrastructure is amazing. They bought up a TON of Nvidia's best GPU's a couple years ago, so much so that companies like MSFT are leasing GPU power from Oracle. And now they're buying another $40 billion worth.

I wonder how much he puts in to their NIL deals.
At his amount of money, I would give LSU recruits some pretty solid incentives for coming to LSU
