No, you're not mistaken, and those people don't know how to read science.

The genetic diversity within sub-Saharan Africa is, by itself, an almost incontrovertible argument for the OOA theory. It would take a massive discovery - evidence of a catastrophic event to all of the rest of homo sapiens sapiens that we don't know about that caused an extraordinary genetic population bottleneck in which only sub-Saharan Africans survived - to start tilting the windmills in another direction.

Stupid arse revisionist historians that try to assert that the Carthaginians or Egyptians - both of which were, pretty clearly, Semitic - were black are another problem.
