Sounds more than a little

That’s the American problem right there overall in terms of mentality.

But congrats seriously and keep going

unless you have some solid muscle mass, 195 at 6'0 is definitely still fat and there's no way you'd look "anorexic" at 170

He is right baws. Unless you’re lifting a ton, 190+ is a lot of weight on a man.

6'0 190 is barely overweight by BMI standards

The BMI chart imho is an outdated tool that tends to leave out way too many variables...

This thread has made me chuckle. I am presently laying by my pool, drinking a beer and trying to decide what is for dinner.

What's changed in human physiology in the last 50 years to make it outdated?

The BMI is fine when you understand what it is: a rule of thumb to measure large populations. Of course there are outliers but it's accurate for the vast majority.

Considering the BMI chart was developed in the mid 1800's It's say a lot.

I do understand what it is ... Its an antiquated method of telling someone regardless of their location on this planet what a healthy weight is..

It doesn't take into account race, sex, bone density muscle mass, metabolic rates.. .etc,etc... I could go on...

BMI for all intents and purposes is a mathematical broad brush that's run it's course..

Nothing in anatomy has changed, but the fact that people move way less out of necessity I could see how the average person is carrying lean mass just from day to day activity.

That would mean we would need to adjust further down. A 6'0 160 skinny fat guy that's never touched a weight likely looks worse than a 6'0 160 person 100+ years ago that moved way more.

Well thats bullshite... We're taller, stronger/faster, live longer, our overall body temps have lowered in the last 100 years.. We are fatter though I will not deny that fact...

That's why when it comes to overall health today as opposed to 100+ years ago many more factors need to be involved..

Let me also say this I'm by no means championing for the body positivity movement.. I am for healthy living though and it's not a one size fits all.. and that's why I always felt the the BMI chart needed an update..

Really? Are you that dense or just trolling?

My dad was NFL level football player in his day. I came along a generation later and that same position was at least 50 lbs heavier. From my days of football to now that has added at LEAST 50 lbs more and possibly 100 lbs. Biggest difference tho is muscle twitch and speed. Not only are linemen way heavier now but they have speed to match. It is no wonder there are more concussions as the physics is simple. Greater mass at greater speed is harder impact damage.

Not only are we heavier but we are taller. The great basketball coach Petey Carrell (sp ?) was interviewed at the end of his career and asked what the biggest change in the game. Most expected free agency, 3pt game, street ball, or a whole host of responses but he just said something like "I used to have ballet dancers (small and graceful) and now I have tall football players.

Going way back, the Roman Army (best in the world) were like around 5ft and modern armies are more like 6 ft.
