Look, you want to play in traffic with 2 tons of metal moving at 65mph be my guest

you do this every day in your car too.
so do motorcycle riders.
when you fly, you're going 600mph in a gigantic flameable flying bomb.
people jump out of airplanes with nothing but a piece of silk in a backpack.
plenty of people on farms live near 65mph roads and are often seen on tractors mowing along the edge of the road.

i guess you want to ban all of these things as well.

None of these are the same as riding a bicycle on a highway, but you already know that.

its just not very smart thing to do even if legal. its about using common sense and to me riding a bike down a busy/fast highway definitely falls into the not using common sense category.

its just too dangerous.

I got pretty choked up when I past the scene of the accident.

They had a ladder with a wreath and a firefighter helmet at the scene on the shoulder.

this pretty much overshadowed everyone's results which is a shame.

fwiw there is a *HUGE* difference between highway & interstate. i'm getting the impression some of the people commenting on here think they're one in the same.

When driving a motor vehicle on a hwy the motor vehicle can drive at the same rate as surrounding traffic a bicycle cannot. Your point, it doesn't exist.

The silent victim in all of this is the son of the father who was driving. The trauma this poor kid had to endure, not having to know his father will go to jail for this.

Imagine if that was your dad when you were a kid...

im not familiar with the highway in question but it looked like a busy one and a wide open one based on the pictures.

i dont know think anyone is confusing it with an interstate though.

You really are grasping. But your lack of common sense explains how you view riding a bicycle on I10/HWY90 as a good idea.

Yea, I thought about that when the news he was shook up at the scene broke. Definitely not easy for him as well. This whole ordeal is shitty on too many levels.

So, if the four cyclists were going 55 mph, this would not have occured?

correct. and highways with 40mph limits only have drivers going between 30-38mph on them.

I think it would have lowered the likelihood considerably, but obviously no one could say for sure. Would you disagree?

Yeah, I'm down with that clown. It's the ignorance that is the worst.

I had a huge argument with my cousin about it on Saturday as he went around preaching to all my family that anyone who doesn't ride against traffic is stupid because then you can see what's coming at you.

At some point, I just have to expect that reason is too much to ask.

I don't care what they feel about the topic, as long as they know and follow the laws.

You sir, are a buffoon. I was shedding light to the fact you think ridding a slow bike on a 65mph hwy is a good idea. Someone of you mental prowess would likely try I10 as well.

You are simply an idiot if you believe ridding a bicycle on a hwy with a posted speed limit of 60mph is a good idea.
