I do feel for the victims and their familes.

However, cycling should be illegal on highways with speed limits over 40mph, period.

I wonder what his suspension was for.

That's stupid. If I get hit going 40 or 80, I'm fricked.

You got to be crazy to be jogging or riding a bicycle on the streets these days. Everybody is texting and reading their cell phones. It's just not safe to be on the streets for anything unless your in a car.

Because it just makes so much sense to ride your bike on hwy's with 2 ton vehicles moving at 45mph. Genius. I ride a lot, I stay away from these types of roads. I fail to see the issue making slow moving human powered vehicles illegal to ride on higher speed hwy's.

It is indeed stupid to ride on Hwy's. I ride on bikes paths, period.

I think he was thinking of it more from cars not having to slow down as much when they encounter bikers, not so much a how much damage would a collision at that speed cause.

i ride and race on everything from mountain bikes to road & TT bikes putting in between 5 & 10k miles a year.

many of the races around TN involve 65mph sections of highway and the roads are typically open during the race and although we have motorcycle & police support at the front & back of the main group, those who get dropped are on their own.

this happens every weekend in all 50 states and when you add triathlons to the mix, its even more often. i guess we should race on sidewalks or around the walmart parking lot instead.

You cant train for anything on a bike path. We load up and head to the country to ride, it takes more effort but you arent in fear for your life.

I got pretty choked up when I past the scene of the accident.

They had a ladder with a wreath and a firefighter helmet at the scene on the shoulder.

Look, you want to play in traffic with 2 tons of metal moving at 65mph be my guest. I wont feel bad if you get into an accident, which can happen on any road on any day. Your piss poor decision to do so.

If you believe strongly enough do something more than complain about it. Take it to your local and state legislatures.

In the meantime, it is legal so all cyclists ask is that you (and not just you, but all drivers) know the laws and respect the rights of cyclists.

Yes, because nobody is ever hurt or injured in car vs car accidents.

Then don't. Don't donate to these families. Don't feel bad if something happens. As long as you know the laws, obey them and respect cyclists rights, you won't hear anything else about it.
