Man, that is insane.

I work in the healthcare industry and Medicaid reimbursement doesn't break-even for hospitals usually. We lose millions and millions from it in every state we have hospitals (including Louisiana).

So to summarize:
- Tax payers lose money, thus hurting their spending ability and the economy

- Private industry loses money, thus hurting economy and job market

- Hospitals, both public and private, lose money, thus creating worse overall healthcare for everyone

Correct. But is less and less overall due to Medicaid purging the list as many recipients do not qualify due to means.

Medicaid is probably better than the crappy arse insurance my company offers. My deductible is $13,500 and doesn’t cover anything until you reach it. I’m having to make decisions on whether I should or shouldn’t get procedures done due to the risk of completely wiping out my HSA. Having to make decisions like this for the family sucks

Isn't this because JBE took the Medicaid expansion deal?

My kids (We’re white) were on medicaid for years until they turned 19. (Funny how Medicaid cuts out at 19 but private ins has to keep going until 25)

Turns out, being a lazy overpaid teacher still didn’t make me rich enough for my kids to be ineligible.

Are hospitals "really" losing money from Medicaid? Or are they not able to bill 300% of the actual procedure cost (which they made up in the first place)?

Medicaid ain’t that bad. I don’t see why it isn’t offered to everyone. Not for free, just at some income based rate.

The first step is admitting the problem.

I see things looking up for you if you continue to be honest with yourself.

If the deductible is this high, why even have insurance in the first place?

Medicaid is infinitely better than private pay patients who don't pay their bills.

Good lord. Does it at least discount prescriptions?

As someone who is knee deep in the financials for 180+ hospitals, they actually lose money in most cases.

Exactly. Doesn’t make any damn sense and if I try to go into the marketplace to get it, the costs are a whole lot worse because of our income
