I find it funny the same people who whine about wage stagnation are the same ones who advocate for open borders and mass immigration, failing to see the connection between the two.
Absolutely true. Jobs like residential construction are almost entirely illegal immigrant labor now. Those were decent paying jobs that a high school dropout could get 30 years ago.

If you are making minimum wage than the market deems to you have the minimum skills necessary to be employed. If you aren't 16 you're lucky to have a job at all.

The only people who can't do better than minimum wage are literal retards and the maybe the disabled. Anyone with a degree can do better. Maybe they choose not to, but they can.
I don't know anyone in this position, but I do remember the articles about this written in ten years ago.

I think I made minimum wage for 6 months at Winn Dixie in HS before I got a raise. That's the only time that I've ever made it

Well the problem is work ethic or cognitive ability today.
Stay at your job
Show up every day and on time
Don't drink night before work
Stay away from hard drugs
Give at least a half assed effort
Don't fight with coworkers or customers
Today, that will get you a supervisor position in a few years.

Really the only era where our southern border was "opened up" was in the 80's under Reagan. Even then it was just lax enforcement. Up until Nixon the border was open and migrant Mexicans came and went, but there wasn't really a decision to "open" the border. It just wasn't seen as a problem so it wasn't heavily patrolled. Enforcement ramped back up under Clinton and it has been heavily patrolled since the mid 90's.
None of that disproves your point, but just more context. I do agree the huge influx of Mexican immigrants in the 80's put downward pressure on wages in the states, but I don't think it was the sole cause. There were a handful of factors in play.
