I’m 48 and the guys that work for me call me sir. I know it’s being respectful but makes me feel old. I guess that’s because I am haha

You are young and life is long
And there is time to kill today
And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun

Hetfield has had a hard life with his addiction problems. That shows up at his age too.

I know 35 isn't really old enough to weigh in too much here but its funny how in some ways, it's different due to tech but the same due to human nature. I've really grown wiser and meditated on life quite a lot. Major changes in a short time, mentally, physically, professionally, and now I'm coasting at the next level.

That said, it's really relative. I'm plucking pure white beard hairs out this year, im looking at coworkers I played football with who are all salt and pepper. The imagine of them as professionals is strange because you've seen them as teens and it never let's go. At the same time, it's comforting to see them do well. My classmates are running for city government positions, playing major roles in leading commercial sectors of our area, and raising good families. I think when we succeed, it empowers the rest, like damn, I went to school with him/her and then we were all just confused teenagers trying to figure out life and now we're all doing things to affect our community in a major way. It's a trip, but you learn that damn, that's life, those adults we never imagined being are us now. We're the ones making the change, something we could've never imagined as a little teeny bopper. It's a beautiful thing, but it damn sure opened my eyes that its incredibly important that i raise my children even better and create leaders, not leeches as we have less and less strong intelligent people affecting society. The old "the children are our future" is more relevant than ever.

Lucky not seeing someone you know everyday in the obituaries.

Another one is your appearance to yourself in the mirror doesn’t look as old to you as you do to other people….or in pictures.

I look in the mirror and see “eh, not too bad” but then see a picture and it’s “geez I look old”.

We took some professional family pictures recently and had the proofs come in. I looked and said man I look older than I thought I was just a week ago. Looking at the proofs really hit me. I'm still look much younger than my classmates but it felt like I took a step up to try to catch them. I'm a mid 60 kinda guy.

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The Sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older.
Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death.

Moral of the story: don't frick around. Carpe Diem. And don't forget to listen to some painfully loud Pink Floyd now and again.

That's the same effect that causes us to still like old gals and think they're hot.
