Man, that’s awesome!
Pretty unbelievable that your surgery took 20 hours.

Wow, legitimately impressive you were walking with all of that. After my second valve replacement I was only walking with an IV pump and stats monitor, I was range walking though and my nurse didn't plan that she would be the one trying to keep up...

No, they would have a much bigger problem if they didn’t. I’ve got all the games going. On the TV, two on the laptop, and one on the iPad.
It gives them a good blood pressure range for me lol

Yeah, it was a two-day procedure. They did the heart first and let me recuperate a little bit, and then I went back under to do the liver the next morning.

How long was the work up for the transplant?
I guess hear is more critical so the work up is not a bad. I need a kidney. I've been on dialysis (not a big deal on it now, PD)for 30 months now. I just finished my trading to get a kidney. But the entire first year they wouldn't test because I only had 80% insurance. .I always wonder how other organ transplant goes.
What's crazy is I have three living donors. Still is like test, wait 2 months for next test. Had colonoscopy Friday. They pulled 26 vials of blood a while back. Non stop. But a heart? That's serious because it requires a matching donor that's brain dead or recently deceased.
I guess I'm curious how long was it from finding you needed a heart to getting a heart?
And prayers to a fast recovery.

I have a transplanted liver. I'm on the list for a kidney but inactive and not on dialysis with a 24 gfr. I remember the 26 vials of blood they took for the kidney workup. I thought she would never finish.

Well, I’ve known I was gonna need a heart at some point my entire life. My anatomy was just too jacked up from the get-go and had to have a rare surgery when I was 2 1/2 in 89 at UAB.
I didn’t start really going downhill until about 2018. And my a fib started kicking into pretty high gear. Since then, it was kind of a steady decline and we knew this was getting closer. I had a revision to my first surgery back in 2021 and that gave me a few more years before the transplant was needed. But last October is when we started to get the word that it was getting really close. It was a full long week in Houston with testing from seven in the morning till four in the evening with any and every kind of physician. Hepatology, nephrology, psychology, Neuro psychiatry, respiratory therapist, PT/OT, biopsies, and obviously cardiology/ heart failure.
It was absolutely brutal. Once it got to the point to where I had to be in the hospital, I came in and from then until the time I got put on the list was about two months. Then from that point it was about another two months before I got the call that there was an offer. Family all came down, surgeons went and laid eyes on the organs and accepted them last Saturday. I went under on Sunday morning.
So it was a long process for sure.

Awesome to hear you are doing well. God bless and keep going!

I had to be in the hospital. I needed constant iv meds to help keep my heart going and had to have an intra-aortic balloon pump inserted to keep pressures up.

I was like that after my liver transplant. I was able to get off dialysis thankfully. I feel for you. Dialysis is brutal. I make plenty of urine, my kidneys just don't filter well. Potassium is my enemy even with a blocker. Hope you get a kidney soon. You definitely need it more than I do.

Praying for a speedy recovery.
My daughter was born with HLHS.
She had transplant at 9 weeks old. She is now 29yo. Same heart.
God has blessed her over and over. I pray that you have many happy years ahead.
