Canes actually stole the idea from “Baileys” chicken tenders off campus at LSU. Had the exact same stuff, sauce and all.

No they didn’t. Bailey’s was better though. Their location was across the street from the second Canes and was harder to get in and out of. It should literally be taught in business school as an example of choosing the right location is important.

I went to school at A&M for a year in the early 2000’s. Never heard of Layne’s.

Is it really? I would not be surprised. Canes is passable at best.

Crazy the Aggies got beat in this competition. Should have had a leg up on competition given they are national meat tasting champions.

Who remembers Lyman White’s Buffalo Wings on Highland about 1/2 mile north of State Street?

This was before the “chicken strip” had become the popular chicken cut that we know today. In fact, Lyman’s wing shop was on the early cusp of the chicken wing boom.

Of course, Lyman being a former star LSU athlete who opened an independent chicken restaurant north of the North Gates of campus on Highland Rd. has obvious similarities to Canes!

The Texas Toast served at Cane?s and Bailey?s, both painted in butter and garlic salt, differ in the fact that Bailey?s uses sliced bread where as Cane?s uses barbecued bread.

What does “barbecued bread” mean? And isn’t it also “sliced”?

Wolf’s Bakery Building isn’t close to LSU?
Wasn’t it by the old Godchaux’s?

Cane’s first diner was an old gas station, right?

Seems like 2 like minded entrepreneurs had a similar idea in which one was extremely successful on a regional, now national level. The other, with 10 locations in what I assume is a local, rural-ish like setting, is/was obviously successful at the local level. The local success, or Canes detractors(more likely) seem bitter about that. Oh well.

Fried chicken in Texas sucks, bland and flavorless. So even if they were fist they aren’t better.

In the 80's Warren Le Ruth worked for Al Copeland on the Popeye's menu and developed Copeland's dipping sauce. Is it close to any of the aforementioned sauces?
