Omaha police officers were called to a house near 90th and Maple Streets about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday to investigate an accidental overdose. They learned that a 53-year-old man had been unloading groceries and found some brownies in the back seat of a car that his adult children had used earlier in the day.
The man ate four of the brownies.

Paramedics called to the scene who checked the man found his vital signs to be normal. But they noted that he was displaying odd behavior — crawling around on the floor, randomly using profanities and calling the family cat a "bitch."

I had to check the date of that article. It looks like the kind of thing you'd read on April Fools Day.

THC content in edibles can vary to a very high degree, to the point that a single brownie can really mess some people up. And a brownie from one place to the next or from one batch to the next might be more or less potent. Further, some of the other active compounds (CBD among others) and natural oils modify the nature of the high.
Some people-- even experienced smokers-- can be surprised at the difference they might get from edibles. So, it's really possible that 4 strong brownies really might have put this guy out of his mind for a while.

Yeah lol and worst thing that can happen is you go to sleep but I can understand how going from 0-100th in about 30 minutes can be a bit unnerving if unexpected

Not one time in this post did you describe an overdose or how it can happen from weed.
Do you say every drunk person is overdosing on alcohol?

We had a beverage cart girl get fired at Hattiesburg Country Club for consuming edibles with some guests from Dallas. She was fine and she was hammered.

I used to do the edibles. Actually. The best brownie I've ever had in my life. That includes pot and regular brownies. Was a pot brownie my friend made. Completely from scratch. None of that store bought baking shite. I ate half the pan. The highest I've ever been on just weed was a few years back. When wax first started hitting it off. I could not drive my car around the corner.

This is why I don't eat brownies anymore. I had a terrible night last time I had one.

Personally, I don't think the guy OD'd in the sense that he didn't need to be hospitalized... But if you insist on being nitpicky, I guess we have have to start by defining overdose.
In everyday parlance, I think it's common to say someone overdoses at the point when they are somehow incapacitated to the point where they may need help (perhaps unconscious; perhaps conscious, but not really in control-- like someone who's chewing someone's face off). A quick look at google... let's pick WebMD to keep it simple... defines an overdose as:
quote:
Drug overdoses can be accidental or intentional. They occur when a person takes more than the medically recommended dose...Illicit drugs, used to get high, may be taken in overdose amounts when a person's metabolism cannot detoxify the drug fast enough to avoid unintended side effects.
LINK
So, overdose can technically mean:
a) You take more than a recommended dosage.
b) You suffer unintended side effects as a result of taking too much of the drug and not being able to digest/process the drugs fast enough to avoid unintended/undesired side effects.
By these definitions, I think this guy OD'd on both counts. If he was happy to be high and crawling around cursing the cat, then "b" does not apply. If he were okay with it though, he should have persuaded his wife to not call the police. So, I don't think he was okay with it and enjoying it.
fwiw, my original point was not focused on technical aspects of overdosing as much as it was pointing out that edibles can really sneak up on people if they underestimate them.
