From The Advocate.

quote:

"We are overwhelmed," Dr. Catherine O'Neal said. "We have too many people in the hospital. Our hospitals are full."

Article

I guess it is time to setup the Centroplex as a hospital. Let’s see if we can beat the cost per patient like NOLA did.

quote:

The operation, which was geared to expand to 2,000 beds if needed, has amounted to $192 million in contracts to build, staff and equip the center. Staffing for the first two months has cost the state $57 million so far out of the $97 million in contracts that called for hundreds of medical professionals from around the country to help in New Orleans. But even at its peak patient count, the convention center held just one-tenth of the patients for which it was built, outfitted and staffed. The center reached 108 patients on April 16 and shrank from there, state records show. As of last week the numbers showed around 190 patients had been treated there.

WWL Article

Why haven’t they shut elective surgeries down if we are “overwhelmed”? I wonder if it is because (which my doctor buddies claim) the first round of being “overwhelmed” was BS.

It’s fake. They’re posturing for federal funding. The hospitals are getting tens of thousands of dollars per coronavirus patient. Now they want even more money out of it

Edit: let’s be clear, these Governors and Mayors pushing these Hospital admins out at press conferences are making money from this too. Local governments also get money from this stimulus. They’re both complicit in the act you see on TV

Just shut the frick up and Wear your mask or we’re all dead because the hospitals are out of room and money and resources.

Loyalty without question to the government masters.

I’m curious what the play is other than politics. They haven’t shut down electives yet. So if the hospital admins really want the government to go full shut down, elective need to be shut down. Electives are where the hospitals make money, not Covid. So if they shut down, hospitals lose money.

So are the admins asking to lose money? Or just going full political? Or just answering questions and reporters are running with a non story?

This whole thing is a mess. Why can't they report what is accurate so that sound decisions can be made? They are self-serving idiots.

The Lake was down to only one unit of covid patients just before Memorial day. Once everyone started going on vacation and enjoying themselves as they wished, things have taken a turn. The Lake now have 5 covid units at compacity. Not every bed or unit can hold covid patients. Other patients are on covid free units.

Journalism is dead in this country.

All we read from every source is unsubstantiated editorials full of half truths and calculated propaganda.

They don’t. They need electives. But they also want that sweet coronavirus relief money. They wanna have their cake and eat it too. Hospitals have been running on a house of cards and it’s been starting to fall apart in the past decade. They’re feeling the squeeze financially, and this coronavirus money has been a sweet relief for them. They’re greedy and don’t want to change their systems, and this is giving them a shot of adrenaline in their financial veins

If I actually got the virus the absolute last place I would go would be a hospital.

How many staffed beds does the lake have? In the linked advocate articles, Dr. O’Neal said they have 676 current patients. That seems like a lot n

ETA: hospital are businesses. They need to run around 75% capacity to make money. They are around 65% now, so they need that COVID money STAT.
