But that is not reality. US has quite the past regarding racial animosity and inequality. shite, the civil rights movement was all but 50 damn years ago.

And most, at least probably over 95% of the white people I know, don't care about skin color. Maybe living in BR and not in the sticks has hidden me from the racist but I grew up living, going to school, playing sports, working, etc with blacks and I never have seen any real racism.

In college I worked for a law firm. I use to drive around Leroy White. He was an incredibly respected tax attorney in BR and also taught some courses at Southern. You would be amazed how he talked about the blacks. He use to say the kids now a days have no idea what being oppressed is. He was poor and attended college in probably the 50's and 60's. He is most likely dead but if he saw how we have regressed in the last 25 years he would turn over in his grave.

Lots of racists wholeheartedly believe they are not racist. Racism is much more nuanced and complex than simply "I don't hate people because they're black". A lot of people who claim to not be racist show quite a different point of view when their daughter brings around a black man, for example.
I guarantee a lot of the "dindu nuffin" posters in threads about black crimes wouldn't consider themselves racist, but they sure are quick to make blanketed racist statements when the situation calls for it.

What we see in Exhibit A here are three Ole Miss frat boys in the Kappa Alpha fraternity - well known for its recently defunct Old South formals - who have made a conscious choice to pose with guns in front of an Emmitt Till memorial that has clearly visible bullet holes in it.

How long does this go on for? At what point in history can we say "you weren't alive during civil rights era, you need to stop having meltdowns when people say racist shite. People suck, get over it"
Its an interesting debate to have. A part of me thinks of it the same way I think of getting tormented by my older siblings. The minute I didn't let it bother me, it really stopped. The worse I freaked out, the worse it got.
People suck, we just need to stay calm, point those people out, and move along. If you show them something bothers you, that it hurts you, they'll keep going after it.
ETA:
I think the kids shouldn't be allowed back at Ole Miss FWIW.
