Although I don't disagree with this sentiment, can we clarify which age distinguishes young from old? Because I am certainly doing my part to purchase albums and concert tickets.

If you're ignorant about arguably the biggest or second-biggest pop artist in the world, I know people sure love some Beyonce, then I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

However, in short she is the white, British, overweight, sober, and modern version of Whitney Houston and her ilk. She has one of the most powerful voices in mainstream music.

if you count royalties I'd bet it's always been that way, Pete Best and another drummer that briefly sat in for Ringo in the early days of the Beatles still get a pretty hefty annual income from Beatles royalties
Are you talking about Jimmie Nicol, who sat in for Ringo for about 10 days? AFAIK he gets no money; he's not on any studio tracks.

The late Andy White was on one track, the "Love Me Do" single. I think he was paid a standard session fee and was not entitled to anything else, which wouldn't be much anyway.

The only reason Pete Best got paid is the group was doing Anthology and needed his permission to use some unissued tracks.

Couldn't part of it be that there is a shitload more music to choose from in the catalogue?

Milkshake was the last good rap song. I would post a link, but just go old school and search ebaumsworld for a demonstration

Not really. Old music is more accessible than any time in history. Much of history the only way to consume music was to see it performed live. Now media has started to accumulate, and there is a lot more of it out there than new.

The term "catalogue" refers to albums released more than 18 months ago

Or we could say that streaming services have been great for discovering music

That's because old music is better than new music. A lot of what is called music today isn't really music.

Boomers have money to buy albums.

Millennials are in $100k of student loan debt for an art history degree and know how to use torrents.

No,

Baby boomers probably buy more music than Gen X'ers and Millenials, since the latter 2 use streaming services. And guess what type of music crotchety old boomers listen too?

Keep in mind that these stats don't include album streams, but regardless, it's a significant turning point.

And your argument on quality of music based on sales is laughable.
