Small world. This was one of the first cases I reviewed as a new Captain in First Cav. He had been a civilian for a few years but the Army wanted to recall him to active duty to try him at a Court-Martial.
We ultimately decided it was not worth the resources since the feds were keen to handle it. He pleaded guilty if I remember correctly.
If I were an ignorant man I’d say you were trash yourself for hanging out with him when you were in the service, but after several years of trying child sex offenders in the military, I can tell you I am continuously surprised at who we uncover. They are often times the good soldiers who the command would have never suspected.
Let me take this time to thank military law enforcement and investigative teams for the work that you do.

Seriously dude, you never really know who someone is. To some degree we all have our "demons", for some it is worse than others, but we all all have other qualities as well. A person can overall be a good person, but there is that one thing that they fight.
Now when it comes to kids, I consider that a whole different situation. As sick as it is to even think about, some people have those sexual tendencies that attracts them to children. That is the worst crime (in general) someone can commit and even if someone has those urges, they should know not only is it illegal, it is going to have life long damage to that child.. And I am sure it is hard to admit, but I would think people like that would want to seek out help before they hurt a child... But that's besides the point..
There is no reason not to contact him, do what you feel is right.. Maybe he can contact you back and make some type of sense of his actions (not sure if it's possible).
