She was belligerent and drove off during a police stop. The gun was drawn because who knows if she's pulled one in the meantime as well. He pulls her out and she just flails and kicks him like crazy.
She deserved every bit of that taser.

Fun fact: what you did (pass stopped car using shoulder) is completely legal in Texas.
As long as you signal the lane change.

Up-voted just for using the term "Ride the Lightning."

Exactly.
The woman was an ornery jackass right from the start. The cop was surprisingly professional.
I’ll admit that he probably didn’t need to taser, but she earned it so why not.

Once it turns into a chase, who knows what she’s going to do. So the gun isn’t inappropriate.
But even getting to a chase instead of giving her a ticket and walking away seems silly.

He tried... Country grandma was being obstinate and drove off.
Dumb people think they will improve the outcome by arguing with the officer and becoming combative.

The first time I was ticketed I asked the cop what would happen if I refused to sign it. He replied that I’d be arrested.
I signed the ticket.
I signed the ticket.

And whether his judgement or Oklahoma law- that he can’t just inform her of the date and/or drop the ticket in her lap and walk away is silly.
The possible risk of the situation escalating there is surely much worse than the gain of a signature. Especially when we have capability to film a stop and file the ticket and move on without any confrontation. Toss a suspension on her license if she no shows court before a chase and use of force.

As I understand it is that the signature acknowledges the ticket (not necessarily guilt) and the agreement of the person to resolve it either by paying the fine or showing up in court to argue.
Failure to sign means you intend to be a “fugitive” and ignore it, so you get detained until you sign or get in front of a judge.

Various states handle it differently, I believe... but even as policy... can you explain the net gain to society at this point?
With dash/body cams we have the stops fully documented. Turn in the ticket, set up the court date, and suspend the license if they no show.
It seems a bit much to cuff and drag them in over signing an $80 ticket, no? Like 100% of the variables in the outcome there are negative as it just escalated tensions and volatility. Surely we can rework that policy to be lower risk and maintain relatively similar outcomes overall. Idiot drivers are going to happen occasionally and I’m not excusing that, I just don’t see the upside in the officer having to engage the situation here.
I’d prefer not to have a chase, guns drawn and a tasing over trying to secure a completely meaningless signature from a belligerent person
