What would the kids make them out of? And here in Kentucky when you're a school that's state audited, they want to see rotating displays with school work, the content you're working on at the time of audit (and after if they come back in a few weeks later), etc. They want standards listed and addressed. They want student data listed in visible places as well (which is routinely changing). This isn't just throwing up some cute owls and apples on a bulletin board.
Teacher threads always make it blatantly obvious who does and doesn't have a parent or significant other in the field

She probably doesn't see much of your property tax depending on what her local board of education members look like.
Our recent Superintendent resigned after an independent audit came in and found a bunch of non-school based personnel making 6-7 figures while schools in the district have been woefully underfunded.

Here is another issue with Texas, at least. Not sure how this compares to LA rates but I've been told premiums are lower. Some teachers are working to pay for insurance for the family. DED's are high as well. This doesn't include supplemental such as critical illness, accident or ADD mind you. Aetna.

I graduated high school in 1990 and we had just gotten air conditioning in the school the year before. The city just built a new high school and I was talking to the project manager about the cost to operate the new school when it opens. He told me the electric bill had been averaging $60000 per month. The school cost over 75 million.

You're correct
Teacher insurance is pretty bad and the continued cost jumps are more than any salary bumps
Fortunately I have pretty good insurance and have her on my plan

Serious question because I have no clue, teachers make 35k in 2017? She looks at least 35-40 so assuming she has 10+ years experience.

FWIW, I've never taught but I've worked in or around education in some shape or form since I graduated HS. It's pretty sad what people don't know or think that their relatively well off middle-class school is how it is.

Depending on where you are it can happen. I know teachers at private schools making less than 30k still. However, some do that merely to send their own kids to the school

Damn that's fight for $15 type money. I get the private school angle because that can get pricey. Still, that was a starting salary in my field in 2001-2002 in lowly Baton Rouge.
ETA - not shitting on teachers. I'm just surprised that they make that little.

Actually the solution would be to raise teacher salary and the standards to teach.
I agree - got to be both though...
And, thanks for what you do.

Catholic and Christian schools here in Louisville (especially smaller parishes) used the "better population" argument when it comes to the lower salaries. It's really kind of silly.

My kids go to private school but I have no clue what their teachers make. I always figured it was around 50k but I'm pretty clueless about teacher salaries.

Teachers work 52 weeks a year now?
Posted on 7/25/17 at 9:45 pm to BluegrassBelle
I have never spent near that amount My first year I did spend more. But as a middle school teacher I don't have to decorate my room as much. Actually most of the decorations in my room were free. Biggest expense I have is card stock. For in class project foldable etc card stock lasts better than regular copier paper. I actually spend more on that at my current well off school as I did at my title 1 previous school. At my title 1 school my department budget was much higher.
If I don't want to spend the money I don't and just use regular paper.
With my coaching stipends I make 55-60k. Spend probably 200-300 a year. With a lot of that usually on a good pencil sharpener that dies by year end.

Private school generally makes less. They don't have to compete to draw teachers. Teachers want to go there. Also a number of teachers will retire from public school and go to private once they have built up their pension.
Most private schools in my area pay about 25-30% less. I know of one in the area that pays the same.

I guess that makes sense to some degree. The public school system is terrible in BR outside of the magnet schools. I can only begin to imagine the shite those teachers put up with.

suck a dick.
time off for summer =/= cost of buying supplies for your classroom. our tax dollars should pay for materials and resources necessary to complete the job.
