It’s procedure, plus he rolled himself over. You can also see the guys gun laying behind the car. I wouldn’t take a chance. Especially with a known murderer.

As he's getting out of the moving car, the door opens, he jumps out, the LIGHT POLE hits the car door, the car door HITS the suspect and knocks the gun out of his hand!

Just watched the full video and saw that. His blaze of glory moment was shuttered by his door hitting a pole and hitting him, acme style.
