According to my DMD/PhD gf it isn't going to hurt you but there's no evidence that it's actually beneficial either. Some of those things on that list are bullshite too, coconut oil isn't curing tooth decay and most of rest of those benefits happen by regular brushing/flossing anyway.

It doesn't take me 20 minutes to brush, floss, and gargle with Listerine. And according to my dentist my gums are healthy and no one ever complains about my breath.....

i was wondering on top of Scope, flossing, brushing and dental picking if there would be any other benefits of using this product.

Maybe for just using in place of butter.

It seems like coconut oil is becoming a cure-all for everything. I like using it in cooking but I think it's starting to become ridiculous how people are using it to treat every single ailment.

I've never heard of oil pulling, but I take a tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil 15 minutes before every workout for energy. It is good for digestion and skin, a modern day "snake oil".

I've done oil pulling in the past and to my surprise it actually seemed to have some benefits over brushing and flossing alone. Basically I woke up and brushed, then pulled while I was in the shower. (No way around that one) At night brush and floss. My teeth were brighter and no longer sensitive and flossing never irritated my gums. I got tired of the 10-20 minute part and stopped for a while, but was thinking about starting it again.

There are some bacteria that bind to lipids and mechanical removal of bacteria would take place from pulling. What I use that exact same brand for is cooking. Use it in place of butter in any sweet recipe. It also can withstand high temps so I use it for stir fry, curries, pad Thai etc. also is good as a moisturizer. Have not ever wanted to pull it through my teeth though....

just did my first pull with it. Could only last about 10 minutes because my mouth filled up with saliva but it was very pleasant taste.

It's disgusting.. Wait til you have a mouth full of gritty oil, combined with saliva that you have to swish in your mouth.

Coconut oil has a lot of benefits and I love cooking with it, but I really have a hard time believing it does anything that my daily flossing, Listerine, and sonicare brushing don’t take care of.

For you married/non-single folk out there, tell your woman to put coconut oil on her coochie after she shaves/waxes or just in general after bathing. Skin gets soft AF and even though I love some vag smell/taste, it is great having a faint hint of pina colada when I’m down there .
