It's the US production that has caused this. The Saudi's aren't going to cut back for our sakes.

We've had a few competitors drop out which has helped us through the downturn but when it does come back it's gonna be insane without those guys around.

If you're on the drilling side, $25 and $40 are basically the same for all intents and purposes.

It obviously still hurts at 40, but I've seen projects that were green lit when oil was close to 40 suddenly get pulled when we dipped below 30.

I think new wells getting kicked on may drop us back to $30, but I can't see it going to $25 again.

Thoughts on the price needed where everybody's happy?

Per barrel and gallon?

$2.00-$2.25 a gallon seems like an ok price to my ignorant arse.

A buddy of mine who is in oil and gas said about $2.50 a gallon or (he named a price I forgot) per barrel. Is sufficient. For all to wet their beak but not be to greedy.

What says the truck nuts crowd. And since this is The OT, what says all the guys on here who cut the checks to the truck nuts baws?

It's not that simple. Different fields require different prices to break even. For the US they generally need north of $50 per bbl.

You sound like someone with tiny dick issues who can't afford an F-250 to compensate.

For ultra Deepwater dynamically positioned drillships the operators need oil at 60 or 65, this is just an educated guess.

That's around the happy medium. Still pretty easily affordable, yet people stay employed.

So that puts gas at 2.50-2.75 I guess?

And the price could be that simple IF we weren't so dependent on it. If milk fluctuated 2 dollars a gallon all the time, people would stop buying milk and cheese. Or many other products, if the price spikes as oil and gas does people stop buying. We do not have that luxury with gas.

The price at the pump is ultimately determined by the gas station owners. It is dependent on oil prices but not exclusively.
