This is entirely due to Mardi Gras.

We had one of the largest gatherings in the world, perfect for spread of the virus, at the worst possible time. It’s likely that thousands of Mardi Gras attendees had the virus, but no one in the US was taking it seriously at the time. Who knows how many New Orleanians those thousands infected at Mardi Gras. And then basically two weeks from Mardi Gras until people/government started taking any sort of measures. Think about how much the virus spread in the two weeks after Mardi Gras. And we’re just starting to see those cases. The post Mardi Gras cases won’t peak for about a week or two

There’s something brutally ironic about the city’s most famed event and biggest money maker being its downfall.

Ramped up testing doesnt mean spread and growth. It just means we are finding more that’s already out there.

So then how does it get around? Came here from China, and it is in nearly every state in the nation. But yeah, that doesn't mean it's spreading and going anywhere.

Jesus. Of course it’s also spreading. But the exponential “growth” isn’t nearly as pronounced as we ramp up our testing capacity. Simply testing more and more (growth) and finding more cases doesn’t mean it’s spreading at that rate. That’s what I meant by extra variable.

JBE said that. We are also on the same trajectory as SK. He said in the next week or so we could follow SK’s path or Italy’s.

You only have to take a brief trip to political talk to see why this is so.

It’s also similar to South Korea...wonder why the officials didn’t mention them?

JBE did and pushed the idea that the actions he had recommended could put us on the SK path and not the Spanish or Italian path.

I'm less concerned about total cases and more concerned with how many people die or are in critical condition.

Correct me on one point though. Wouldn't this week's results be reflective of last week's tests? Thus, are we able to even see the effect of this week's actions until the following week?

I feel like the lag time from testing really does us a disservice to determine how effective current practices are to stopping spread.

Anyone have guidance as to whether we should be able to expect this lag to tighten up in the near future?
