Right.... I remember my first beer too.

But those little champagne of beers bottles don't break like that.

Guess the inlaws are not really impressed with their son's life partner.

You did not break anything on anybody. The next morning you said to yourself that you shoulda gone upside his head wif a bottle. That is not the same as doing it the night before.

About as much as telling your MIL that the first time she pisses her pants she is going in a nursing home. Has taken years to get over that

No in-laws. Always my brother, though (just a tense argument, no blows, though some implied threats. We made it almost 96 hours, which has to be approaching our record as adults. Now shite's going to be awkward for the rest of the visit (another week). I'm certainly not in the mood for swapping gifts or anything, and would send the one I got for him and my sis-in-law back if it didn't strike me as such a bitch move. I'm honestly seriously considering hopping a flight back to Washington today. Would miss Christmas with my parents and little nieces, but can do without bro and sis-in-law.

We're going to have to start planning these trips around each other to avoid ruining shite for the rest of the family.

story?

Not much to it. We can laugh and joke occasionally and even went to see a movie the other day (Creed). But there's always something just below the surface. We're fairly different in personality and outlook, and I think there's some resentment there that I can't quite place--more from him to me than me to him. I think it's a "younger brother who never looked up to older brother thorn in his craw. So he always makes these little office politics type minor power plays or slights--think like woman shite. He and his wife did dinner the other night (great food, too) so my mom and I did it last night. I spent about $90 on ingredients for pasta, a meat, salad, etc and my mom whipped up the hot dishes while I did the light lifting salad, bread, dessert. Customarily the cooks don't do clean up (as they hadn't the night before, so after dinner I went about my business. Later my mother got the idea that I'd clean up anyway or something and asked why they were still in the kitchen. He gave some bitchy remark about her "baby boy" (me) being too good to clean up, and I euphemistically told him to get fricked. My dad stepped in with his usual "you're the only siblings you each have and I told him that didn't mean anything to me. Bro started spinning up, I told him to chill, and he disappeared off.

He's a big guy with the temperament of a teenaged girl and a wife who eggs him on, and he's fairly accustomed to getting his way. So this was just the last little straw. He walks around throwing passive aggressive elbows at everything in sight all day, and generally just makes things slightly less pleasant than they have to be. Mind you we're in our early-mid 30s, 18 months apart, and haven't spent more than two weeks at a time around each other since 1998. I'm pretty sure he just hates me and can only keep the mask of civility up for so long. For my part, I don't hate him, but I definitely have a limited tolerance for his presence. He talks non-stop, can't sit still or appreciate quiet and silence, and hasn't, to my knowledge ever started a conversation that didn't have more to do with him than whomever or whatever the topic is actually about. He also goes on religious speels when he isn't swearing or telling sordid jokes.

Not a bad guy. Just a loud, obnoxious ham who can dish out plenty and take absolutely nothing. And, as I said, I'm pretty sure he hates me. My parents are pretty exhausted with him as well, but they're afraid to bruise his papier-mâché ego for fear that he'll bring the girls around less. My best trips home are when my parents have the girls and he and his wife are off somewhere.

FTR, we were both stone sober. So you know, just routine family shite. Nothing scandalous.

That was very underwhelming. Just do the dishes from the get go and that could have all been avoided.

Sorry to waste your time with my non-salacious story. If you think it was about dishes, I think you missed the point. It would/will always be something.

frick that. If they didnt do the dishes the night before, then why should he do dishes two nights in a row to make up for how much of a spoiled person his brother is? The reason is brother is such a piece of shite in the first place is because he's always had someone else "do his dishes". To teach someone like that a lesson, they either need to get their arse whipped or a family intervention where people with stones say what needs to be said and hopefully get through to him so that he's not a miserable prick the rest of his life.

Aporeciate the understanding. I guess I could have offered a to;dr version that simply said he's basically possessed of every stereotypical obnoxious family member trait you've ever seen in a movie. I'd think more could identify. Sorry we didn't all come from families where holiday drama results in arrests and and trips to the ER.
