I'm not disagreeing with you saying it can glide, but that would assume a pilot is doing the "gliding" and if so, why not use procedures to alert others to the planes trouble?
Probably the same reason none of the tracking systems were working?

it's a possibility, basically. there is not a chance of a black hole or an abduction. there is a good chance of it being at the bottom of the ocean, or hidden in a hangar somewhere IMO.

I'm still going with mid-air breakup.

Pilots intentionally did something. Turned off all communication, literally flew under the radar. Then who knows...
How do they get to the tail section and incapacitate the black box? It sends location pings twice per second when operating?
And there are procedures that take place when power is completely lost.
Bottom line, a trained pilot was flying this thing IF it is the plane seen over land heading toward straight.

Realistically we do though.
No, not necessarily. There are TWO realistic possibilities. The 777-200 ER lacks air-to-air refueling capabilities, so it is no longer in the air. Thus, either it landed somewhere else, or crashed. It's possible they landed somewhere to use the plane as a weapon in an attack.

Possible

No there isn't.
Until the plane is found any thing is possible.

Was thinking this too…..but with the news it traveled back across the peninsula, I’m thinking it’s less likely

The two things that make this even remotely possible are:
1. Complete lack of beacon/signals coming from the plane - even those normally triggered after a crash
2. The relatives of the passengers saying the phones were ringing when called. Although I know these poor folks are just grasping at straws, as we all know when your phone is dead it typically goes straight to voicemail so it is possible I suppose...

Maybe he wasn't in the left seat at the time? Which then leaves the plane in the hands of the guy who's known to chase Australian tail and not fly the plane?

I love this thread, there's so much debate on the disappearance because nobody has any fricking clue as to what actually happened.

They had to have crashed.

so killing all the passengers and flying the plane to an undisclosed location isn't a possibility?

I still vote for the mid air explosion.
But if that plane is in a hanger somewhere, then that was a movie quality heist. No phone calls or texts sent out by passengers. No clear eye witnesses. Avoiding or blocking all of the safety precautions in place to keep track of the plane. You have to shoot the moon to make that work.

is it possible to jam these signals coming from the plane? i know you can buy cellphone jammers online. Would it be possible for someone who knew what they were doing to jam all signals/radio communication from the plane then hijack it?
