I just think it's funny that people are now saying the plane has been found. that's what the media is saying.
Well, that is no different that what has been happening the whole time with this story.
Some asshat will release some information, which may or may not have been correct. The media will put out a story with some spin on it and go with their theories. Then the people in this thread will take that shite and go 100 different ways with it.

It was a question. Not all understand the fuel ranges of helicopters and relative speed vs that of a plane.
I thought it was a good question. I'm glad you could answer it.

This news doesn't jive at all with the news last night that the plane descended to 12k when making the turn. It would've intentionally had to be brought back up to cruising altitude to reach the purported crash zone.

What are they expecting get out off spotting objects but not retrieving them? Planes see them but can't get them and rely on ships to get them which could take God knows how long, then turns out it isn't there anymore or they just don't see it. Any reason planes were taken instead of choppers where they could've lowed someone down to retrieve them? Can they not do that with planes? Excuse my ignorance

Well... Duh.... Same board of people that will have Nick Saban going to Texas because somebody saw his wife's cousin's brothers friend buying a Shinerbock while listening to Pat Green. And that's what makes it awesome.

They're saying the debris found was positively identified as part of the missing plane.
ABC Website
EDIT: sorry but the story doesn't actually say that. It just says "satellite data" and talks about the images, wooden pallets that were on the plane, etc.

Here's another poser. Some are saying that the US has had a pretty good indication that the plane went down where basically everyone is now saying it went down. Lifetime of the batteries on the black boxes are getting short. If so, why is the US just today, according to the news on FOX, shipping out the "locator thing" that drags behind a boat, from Washington? That will be a whole day, if not longer, to get this thing to Australia and get it out there in the water to do its thing. Seems like it would already be there or at least on its way.
Doesn't quite add up in my mind.

Even so, they're going to lower a human into those waters to retrieve a piece of debris, let's say, a 74ft wing?
I get what you're saying. He contributed, but it seems like some people's logical thoughts go out the window occasionally in this thread.
Welcome to the OT.
No, but they may try and snare a life vest or a set or something small for positive ID.

According to articles I have read(I'll try to link 1 if you wish) that the target altitude upon rapid decompression is 10,000 feet for everyone to breath without those temporary masks.
Makes sense that the plane turned & descended to at least 12,000 feet as the pilot probably programmed that altitude in.
Maybe he had already programmed that turn & descent into the computer & the plane kept flying?
I know that. I'm just saying that you cannot physically breathe the air at 35,000 feet, but you can at 20,000 feet.
A pilot would put on his mask before doing any of that if he knew he was losing pressure.
It's not like you lose pressure and 1,2 you're out. In the emergency checklist, donning masks would be step one.

believed to be wooden pallets.

not yet sure whether the pallets matched

Where is that saying positively identified?

Since this started, every day the news has contradicted the news of the day before.
It's nuts.
But yeah at 12,000 feet there is no "zombie plane" scenario. You could open the doors at 12,000 feet.
Cabin pressure is usually set to 8,000 feet (there is a push to set it to 6,000 feet for even more comfort)
But if you have ever been to Pike's Peak, you know you can breathe at 15,000 feet with little issue.

shipping it from DC today? IDK, maybe we only have one and we keep it close to the US in case we have our own air disaster.

How can this be??!! I read from another news source and the posters in this thread were saying all they know was it was some debris, no confirmation, and they search was being abandoned.
I also think way too much was and is being made about the altitude of the plane as I thought it def wasn't 100% confirmed.
I really hope that this is true about positively identifying the plane so this family can get at least some closure.

That's not what I read in that article. No debris has been recovered or identified.

No where in your link does it say any debris was positively identified. You sound like the rest of the media.

To be fair, the link that he said confirmed the findings, didn't confirm anything actually... BUT, this says that the radar picked something up in around same area the satellite images showed. It's yesterday's though.

Yeah, sorry about that. The initial link quote I hit said that, but the story at the link doesn't.
They're saying that they found certain objects in the water including wooden pallets and that the plane was carrying wooden pallets.
They also said the satellite data shows the plane headed that direction and there are no landing sites and assume the plane "ended in the southern Indian ocean"
Perhaps more factual information will result later in the day.
