I saw a show on it that talked about the crater and how small the pieces were...also the biggest body parts found were feet.
If it was shot down would there even be a crater?
Depends.
A heat seeking missile will target an engine/exhaust. Detonation may or may not ignite the fuel, which would cause a much larger explosion. If the missile/s only damage the engine along with structural components (tail/wing/rudder), the plane could easily plunge nose-down, causing a crater upon impact. If the rudder, tail, wing, or engine are separated from the structure when hit, they could very easily land at a separate location.
Flight 93 apparently went down hard.

Flight 93 was shot down like I'm the Pope. Let's not besmirch the memory of the folks aboard who did something about their plane being hijacked.
Really folks, the odds of this being kept as a secret* thirteen years on are at least 9,112,001 to 1.
Possible? Sure
Probable? Not nearly.
*What would be the street value of substantive evidence that something other than the accepted account of Flight 93's demise happened? It'd be worth seven figures. Someone would have talked by now. Money is a motivating medium.

I didn't say it was shot down. I described possible scenarios of a heat seeking missile impact on an aircraft.

Never said they didn't try. Our gov't would take out the plane regardless. Assuming they did take the plane, why not get on the radio and ask how to turn on the auto pilot to land? Someone on that plane had to know that the plan pretty much flies itself these days.
The cockpit voice recorder was recovered, they tried, but failed to get into the cockpit, the hijackers pushed the nose over and dove it into the ground. Here is the transcript of the cockpit audio.

Sorry, I erroneously responded to your post.

If Flight 93 had been shot down it would not have made a crater as deep as the one shown below:
As the post above states...they recovered the cockpit voice recorder after all was said and done and had it played at the trial of Zacarias Moussaoui. It's pretty cut and try. The passengers attempted to gain entry into the cockpit and the terrorists, as a last resort, nose dived the plane into the ground at speeds over 500 MPH.

That velocity would definitely leave a crater, especially nose-down. That crater's not from a free fall.

Maybe more effort into locating the airliner than bragging about being part of the rescue effort.
The flight crews have mandatory rest periods, and any city in Asia has places that can make a patch like that overnight.

A frog satellite has spotted debris as well. I suspect that the US Navy knows exactly where the wreckage is on the floor. If we found a dead soviet sub in 1968 surely we can find an actively pinging plane now.

Not to stay on 9/11, but reading that transcript for Flight 93 just ruined my day. frick those bastards. I hope they're writhing in hell.
Back to Malaysians, when exactly is the cyclone supposed to come through and will they be able to fly today?

The storm will be in the search area in a couple days.
It's the middle of the night there now.
"The search will resume again tomorrow with the addition of two Chinese Ilyushin IL-76s and two Japanese P3 Orions.
But the threat of bad weather still looms, with a cyclone reported to be heading towards the search area at the moment, which will cause difficult conditions with strong winds, though it is expected to lose its strength over the next few days."

I haven't seen it mentioned, but Malaysia is now trying to cover their arse by saying plane was still on course at time of last transmission from co-pilot.
I would think this would be fairly simple to refute.

I knew a meteorologist who worked at NAVO at NSTL. Whenever anyone would find out he was a meteorologist, their next question was most likely something about the local NOLA area weather forecast. His response was always: "I work in a room with no windows. I can tell you about the currents and sea conditions in the Indian Ocean right now. You probably know more about the weather here than I do." It's odd you said something about that, it's been more than a decade since I saw him. His work was related to snooping and/or having boomers there. We (the US) care and pay attention to the Indian Ocean.
