I started 2017 as one of the people to watch in my city by 225 Magazine. Honestly, it out the pressure on, it made me say I had to deliver this year. Started the year celebrating the inauguration of Mayor Sharon Weston Broome. Got to meet and begin building a relationship with Shaun King. Very encouraging brother. I served on Mayor Sharon Weston Broome’s transition team for communications and technology. Served on the mayors task force for policy community relations and helped craft the changes to the use of force policy with that group and the mayor’s office. Broke the story about Judge Mike Erwin calling a woman the N-word and being banned from Sammy’s Grill. That story would go viral and become national news. Continued to speak to young people at schools and events. Sat in on CNN after the non-indictment by the Feds in the Alton Sterling case. Met with the DOJ and shared that information with the broader community about the egregious actions of the officer who killed Sterling. Got arrested for exercising my constitutional rights demanding that the Metro Council do something about the murder of #AltonSterling. Started a weight loss journey and lost 50lbs this year. Didn’t gain any of it back, still got a ways to go. Started a new radio show with John Delgado and have a big announcement about that in the coming weeks. Kicked it with Anthony Hamilton and interviewed him while he was in Baton Rouge this year. Got to meet some great new people and build with the same solid group of brothers in the city. Sued the city of Baton Rouge for violating my rights to speak earlier in the year. Enjoyed a snow day with my baby girl and every other day this year. Ended my year planning some big things for the beginning of 2018. Thanking God for seeing me through the good, the bad, the ups and the downs. For giving me the strength to stand against all odds. Every now and then I think I’m not doing enough, and then I look back and say keep pushing son. The best is yet to come. I guess it was a year worth watching. Time to go to the next level. Here’s to a productive year, and an even better 2018!
