This is the 12km NAM at 3:00 AM CST Tuesday. You can see some form of wintry precipitation. Snow/Sleet/Freezing rain is taking over the northern half of Alabama.
Right now, for us Alabama folks, I don’t think there will be a lot of precipitation, particularly south of the Tennessee Valley. However, with the temps we are going to have, it will not take much wintry precip to cause road issues.
Same model at the same time shows the accumulated snow and sleet this way:

The big difference between the NAM and the HRRR is the NAM favors freezing rain and the HRRR favors snow. It has been that way since this started getting into range.
Our (north AL) Winter Storm Watch is solely snow-focused. As of at least this morning, there was no mention of ice. Guess NWS Huntsville favors the snow solutions. I hope they're right.

A shite ton. Played a lot of golf. Spent a lot of time in my pool. Way better than this sub-freezing bullshite. But I'm not a fatass.

NWS Birmingham is likely going to be issuing a Winter Weather Advisory for most of central Alabama. They say it could extend as far south as places like Selma and Alexander City. They noted, like I mentioned above, that it won’t take much wintry precip to cause issues with the very cold surface temperatures we’re expected to have.

Winter precip just got heavier on the latest GFS run (Baton Rouge).
Even more so for Lafayette.
I’m referring to the 18z or 6 pm model.
Targeting Tuesday at 6 am for the heaviest precip.
Showing 2-3” of “snow” from Laffy to around Port Allen.
It’ll like be freezing rain and sleet and maybe not accumulate much.

Drive safe, RTR!
Watch out for black ice. Can’t see it but when you go over a patch you sure as hell know what it is.

Thanks for the image.
I wonder if the local Mets even acknowledge that it could get cold soon.

That L off the coast of NC in the model.. wouldn't that create a wedge effect and push moisture down into NE GA down to NE ATL and Athens areas, right into the freezing temps?

4° is now my forecast high for Tuesday with a high of 24°.
The record low for that date is 2°, and the record lowest high is 24° (for Huntsville). Gonna get close, I think.

It is just a Big Water ploy to scalp your pocket book, no doubt.
