The format is still the same. Friday at noon we will have a luncheon in a private room at a local establishment (open bar), then at about 3:00 we will spill into the Quarter. Usually start at Pat O's, but it will eventually splinter and folks bleed off. Eventually ends up in some dive with people wasted. In my old age I have started to do an Irish goodbye in the 7:00 timeframe.

I remember those days. Law firm Christmas parties used to be a wild affair with great stories you could fondly look back on for years on end. Now...everyone is gone by 4:00 and it's as if the party never happened.

While watching the Today Show this morning getting dressed they were interviewing a bunch of nerds at office holiday parties in NYC in a story discussing how today's "social climate" has made the parties less raucous. Everyone they interviewed was talking about how they are trying to be incredibly cognizant of what they are saying/doing so as not to offend someone or say something that may somehow be construed as "sexual assault/harassment." They even interviewed a gay man who said "I'm usually pretty blunt and direct in what I say to people. But I think with everything going on today we all need to watch what we are saying so as not to maybe offend someone."

It used to be that the women were every bit as fun as the guys at the parties. In fact, they would get drunk a say things that would make a sailor blush. But somehow, no one seemed to get offended.

Very true. The era of smartphones, HR, #metoo, bogus sexual harrassment allegations...you'd have to be insane to do anything nowadays, especially an attorney.

No joke, #metoo will be in full effect in seven years, when these first year associates make partner.

Lawyers are the reason the world is in the shape it is now. Reap what you sow.

Its all about who you hire and how you interview..

You can generally tell if a person is the kind of person #metoo.

When the world stops hiring people like that then it can go back to normal.
