Kurt Cobain
Shocked it took me to page 3 to find this.
It would have been interesting to see where he would have gone. I liked the way he was heading with In Utero. More gritty, raw sounding. More dissonance in the songs.
On that same note, if Layne had been able to stay clean and active in AIC. We got to see a lot of what Cornell did after Soundgarden at least.
Most overrated band of all time is Nirvana. I know I'll get hate for this but its 100% true. They benefited from the suicide and the conspiracy theories more than their actual music. They werent even the best band in their own city at the time to be perfectly honest.

I think Cobain was always going to implode, especially when other grunge bands started overshadowing Nirvana.
It's highly possible to be sure.

a lot of great ones already mentioned. More recently I would go with Justin Townes Earle. That guy was a great songwriter and hell of a performer.

That's not even remotely true. They were one of the biggest bands on the planet after Nevermind and In Utero.
Best is subjective. AIC was better IMO, but I like their style more. It's just subjective.

Nirvana was the most popular mainstream grunge band, however, I would definitely suggest that fans of the era (both then and now) would have Nirvana somewhere down the list.
As least one or more of Pearl Jam, AIC, The Pixies, perhaps even Soundgarden, STP, etc. would likely be listed higher per the subjective listener than Nirvana.

Ok.
They are not a technically skilled great band by any stretch of the imagination. You can say you like Teen Spirit all you want, it's not some genius work of art.

Agree here. Pearl Jam and Soundgarden were better than them as well.

Another very solid band.

I don't think any of the guys in the band would even say they were technically skilled. Teen Spirit is an automatic skip for me if I ever listen to Nirvana.

Frank Zappa had a private collection of just about everything he recorded at his home, including previously unknown recordings of him jamming with Eric Clapton and John Lennon. His kept pretty detailed records of his private audio library and listed in the library is a jam with none other than Jimi Hendrix, but his family has not been able to locate it. His collection was so large, it took his family years to go through it.

Bradley Nowell (Sublime). They were about to blow up, and he died right before they went boom. Brutal.
I’ll second this because they weren’t just about to blow up, they were pushing new boundaries with regard to bringing a sound to popular music no one had ever really heard before in the mainstream.
